Today I think the universe would be a better place if the earth up and swallowed itself. But then I'm having a bad day.

You're about a week behind the curve on this discussion... Think of something original to post.

What looming danger? There is no solid proof the LHC is going to cause any threats to the well being of the planet.

A poignant reminder that it's not peaceful acts and science we need to fear it's those who exploit everything in every way with the single minded fanaticism of hurting innocent human beings. An act that has now caused global deployment of armed forces into their homes lands and caves in an effort to turn their movements into black holes. I really don't think you need worry about the LHC. On September 12, 2008 you best worry about your drive home because everything else is outside of your control.:rose:

The headline on the (stupid) school newspaper the other day said "World not swallowed by black hole." I'm glad they told me, because I sure was wondering.

I cover my head with aluminium foil to divert the Hawking radiation or whatever evil comes and carry a brown paper bag with me all the time. In case a black hole is lying in wait for me, I put the bag over my head, duck and cover in the gutter and hope to get off scot-free. As you can see, I've been lucky so far. The paper bag also comes handy when I can't stand the pressure of fear of those dark days to come any more and need to get dead-drunk and then need to barf... Just don't forget to NOT put it over your head afterwards...

Not really, wednesday they only did a single particle test, and the LHC won't be fully operational until next year. this is when the black hole experiments begin

I don't feel bothered - I think it's a load of inflated nonsense. My loathing for The Sun and local Bristol papers has also been increased (the quality of reporting, bias and representation of facts was god damn awful) although I've never liked tabloids much anyway. The closer one is located to the black hole and the earlier one's sucked in, the better. The later you come, the bigger the throng will be. And I'd hate to be squashed by those crowds... Smithers-Jones is planning next year's holiday near Geneva

The Travel Channel (of all places) did a thing on the LHC the other night. It was very long but very good. I think it pretty much dissipated any concerns I might have had (though I had none to begin). My only real concern about the whole project is could it become dangerous if terrorist overtook the facility and if so to what end? I came to the show late and if that had been discussed already I missed it.
