"24 Corpses Found Shot in Mexico" This is an absurd headline. Why on earth would anybody shoot a corpse? Even better, why would it be "news"? The news media is so completely fucking clueless that it's no wonder the news consuming public is so ill-informed.

Maybe the corpses were alive when they were shot?

In which case they were either not corpses (by definition, a corpse is not alive) or they were zombies. If they were zombies, then that would be news.

Well, of course they were alive, but at the time they weren't corpses.

But they found the corpses, not the living people. And the corpses had bullet holes in them. "24 corpses found shot in Mexico", not "24 corpses shot in Mexico"

The word "shot" is being used as an adjective, modifying the subject "corpses". The construction isn't grammatical, since the sense of the subject and the adjective don't agree. "24 people found shot in Mexico" "24 corpses found in Mexico with bullet holes"

Maybe somebody was using the corpses for target practice? Testing some homemade bullets and their effect on human tissue? Maybe (and is probably more likely) the reports at CNN are ignoramuses.

Well put. The word corpses should be people, assuming they are human corpses. And like you said, what qualifies this as news, anyways?

And it caught your attention did it not? absurd or not, the art of headlines is to get you to look, or get you to talk to your friends to spread the publicity. Shocking headlines, exaggerated headlines, WTF headlines, they all exist.... YOU found a WTF headline and it worked, you told a whole bunch more people and I bet a few might even have googled or swung by CNN to see the headline themselves, which means YOU just proved the headline worked 100% as it intended. Absurd or not, it worked.

If it said "people shot" then it wouldn't convey the information that the people are dead. "24 People Shot" makes it sound like they are still alive.

How about: 24 people were found dead; at this time the cause of their death appears to be somehow related to bullet holes perforating each corpse.

"24 Corpses Found Shot in Mexico" This is an absurd headline. Why on earth would anybody shoot a corpse? Even better, why would it be "news"? The news media is so completely fucking clueless that it's no wonder the news consuming public is so ill-informed.

The degree is in English, but she speaks fluent 'Mercan, since she was born and raised here in Ohio.
