It looks like fan mail, David! Good job:-) I'm amazed that anyone would get worked up enough over a silly webpage to actually write the author. Does the ninny really think that you're likely to change your opinion on the strength of his note? What a wanker, indeed!:-D "Knock, knock." "Who's there?" "Recursion." "Recursion who?" "Knock, knock..."

From: David Wulff [mailto:dave@davidwulff.co.uk] Sent: 12 August 2002 01:13 To: '------' Subject: RE: Your pet hates. Dear K.M., Whatever are you talking about? Yours, - Dave

From: ---- [mailto:----@netscape.net] Sent: 11 August 2002 23:50 To: dave@davidwulff.co.uk Subject: Your pet hates. Hopefully you aren't so closed minded that you will actually consider what I am about to say, If so, that's your business. This letter is about your 'pet hates'. '1. Ignorant and Religious People', Do you hate ALL religious people even though most have never done anything wrong personally to you (I certainly haven't), or are you just marking people in your mind as ignorant because they choose to believe in God (which is their free right to do). Because I can tell you that as someone who is a Christian, I am neither ignorant nor arrogant, nor would I EVER try to impose MY belief on you. You are being presumptious (one of my pet peeves, along with selfishness). I am an American, and PROUD OF IT. And I can tell you that I don't hate English people 'just because they happen to live in England' because there's not a lot of choice we have about where we're born (although I admit many English,to me, tend to act arrogant). # 5. 'People who complain about something without realising how damned lucky they are in the first place.' You say this, and you lump religious people in with ignorant people, which I assume you consider all Americans to be (# 10). # 9. 'People who are so biased that they truly can't see the other point of view'. This is your exact attitude toward religious people and Americans. Oh well, I have read that what people despise the very most in others is what they fear the most of becoming themselves. See if you can open you mind up enough to admit to YOURSELF that you just might be wrong, if you can't, then YOU'RE Ignorant and arrogant. Thanks for your time. Of course *you* are not too ignorant or arrogant (take your pick) to read the very first lines on the very same page, are you? I am trying to think of a more politely worded response to the inevitable "arrogant bastard" followup e-mail - I don't suppose I could have a little help could I? I'm afraid my grasp of the Englis

Though if you were wondering, i'm not taking this seriously. Your list seems in danger of soon developing more disclaimers than actual list; anyone taking offense from it is simply looking for something to take offense at, and happened to wander by your site. Though i must say, it'd be a lot funnier if it lost the disclaimers & stuck to tongue-in-cheek arrogant humour... ---

Publishing it if you did not explicitly mark it as confidential could be 'fair use'. You will not need a respose on the confidentially check for someone to 'violate' your copyright if you say it's confidential (i guess).

On one hand I agree, but on the other hand, if I sent something to *you* then it's up to *you* what to do with it. Writing something on the net is much like speaking in a public place. If someone overhears and laughs -- who's fault is that? But, if I were sent an embarrasing email, it's likely that I would not print it verbatim on the net because I would like the same consideration. Not as if that matters to everyone though. Nice sig, BTW. "Did I disappoint you? Did I let you down? Did I stand on the shore and watch you as you drown? Can you forgive me? I never knew, The pain you carried deep inside of you." -Disappoint, Assemblage 23

I am not taking the other side here, but posting a private email to the web is really quite awful netiquette..... Private e-mail is one thing, but this has had any identifiying information removed from it (no e-mail, and the name was abreviated). If someone has an honest gripe to air then I will take it on board, privately, but one someone chooses to make an arsehole out of themselves - especially in such a way - then they should expect to be singled out and laughed at. Good etiquette - I don't really care. There is a Confidentiality field that can be set when sending e-mail that is confidential.
