David Blaine

So what? Did you pay good money for a spectacular stunt, and are now dissapointed? If nothing else, he's sending a message to many people that humans can do more than we normally expect, and it's free.
A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty… The true value of a human being is determined primarily by the measure and the sense in which they have obtained liberation from the self. … We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if humanity is to survive. (Albert Einstein, 1954)

I still remember having to write your own code in FORTRAN rather than be a cut and paste merchant being pampered by colour coded Intellisense - ahh proper programming - those were the days :)

I personally like the quote from Chris Rock (apologies if it's not 100% accurate).... "What is the world coming to when we fall for a TRICKLESS MAGICIAN!?!?!...What's his latest, I'm gonna sit in a box, and I ain't gonna eat....that's not magic - that's called LIVING IN THE PROJECTS!"
C# has already designed away most of the tedium of C++.

What a cunning stunt. :~

You could look at it as pushing the limits of the human body... like Phelps and Bolt did.

I dare him to play dead for 500 years!

((lambda (x) `((lambda (x) ,x) ',x)) '`((lambda (x) ,x) ',x))I'll take your bet and raise you - I dare him to play dead for eternity! :) The guy is a first class idiot. If he falls the only person I'll feel sorry for are the poor cleanup guys who have to cart his ass off to the morgue and clean up the mess afterward.

Now I liked his street stunts and card tricks and such but this is just silly and can be harmful to his health.

I got angry about this last night, not because of Blaine - he's only trying to churn a few quid - but by the news programme. Since when is it news to give free adverts to someone doing something that is possibly harmful? Hanging upside down, encasing yourself in ice, starving yourself in a glass box or whatever other self-harm fetish that Blaine takes a fancy to (what next Blaine attempts to eat his own limbs whilst underwater?) is not news. Gah.

Is it just me, or do other people think that Blaine is just an attention seeking...
Few escape that label.

Is anyone actually impressed by him?
I enjoy his magic.

Oh, his "stunt" really isn't one after all. I heard on the news this morning (sorry, haven't had time to find a link, nor do I really care to) that every hour he gets brought down 10 minutes to "stretch",use the restroom if needed AND get his blood flow circulating. Also, during interviews, his head is "proped" up so he can speak more clearly to the interviewer. He now says that HE never said he'd hang upside down for 60 hours straight...it was the media that made that assumption...
