Here at work, different groups have been marking their territory with Symbols; lighting bolts and Ohms (Omega) symbols for the hardware guys; Various tools for the mechanical guys; But what are some software symbols? I’ve thought of some binary (10100) and possibly a snippet of assembly language, but that’s about it. So what are some symbols for software?

He's hanging on the wall with a spear in his head!!!! Roach #2: (turning away) I can't look. Roach #1: Disgusting. There is NO WAY I'm coming out from underneath this cabinet now Roach #2: I ... I ... I can't take it, I'm going to go take a hit of Raid and lay down.

Just look at any pdb file and you will find plenty. This was the geekest answer so far :~

If you want it to create an icon: From an end user point of view probably a package and a CD beside it, or a black monitor with green C codes inside it. No invention though. From programmers point of view you saw all sorts of innovations so far. I add my own: Maybe a lamp bulb half On(left half), half Off indicating 0 and 1 or an incomplete flowchart or a button or a menu with a mouse pointer clicking on it. Or you can draw me trying to understand the rush of new technologies, here:  or this one: :omg:

My manager has a toy preying mantis named Feature in his cube. I'm waiting for (in)security to frame it and evict it from the premise. We had two live spiders as pets in the lab until a year ago. They were framed for an after hours floor tile alarm. They're in terrariums. On a shelf. Five feet off the floor. Allegedly the tile that alarmed was on the far side of the comroom.

Or possibly a statement of intent:

Whatever symbol is used has to be readily understand by other groups. Without wanting to start a language/OS war, I'd say use the Java symbol, or a similar such device. Tim

I actually like the "mouse in a biohazard sign", and oyur initial ideas. Other ideas - it seems to be hard to come up with something iconic: An infinity sign or moebius tape. Eschers "drawing hands" A picture of enigma or an enigma wheel (would be spot on if it were commonly recognized) Sierpinski Triangle[^] An picture/sketch of the "[1] [0] [RUN]" keyboard.
