Hello guys, I believe user group are very important for all developers and designers. We all gather to talk, share knowledge, show off our experiences with new stuff and build up good relationships which in many cases leads into some people get hired through this user group. I have short experience with a local group but I'm so not so happy with it. The last time we had big event/meeting gathered many developers it was in March. Since that nothing happened. :( I heard about a user group in Texas. They have monthly meeting, besides many events they do in between. They care about the relationship among developer and designer and build up strong and good community, besides they provide good food (BBQ), give a way books, software and more. :-D I wish mine dose the same. :( What about yours?

I'm the chairman of Scottish Developers, a user group in Scotland. We have meeting across Scotland. We have about 3 meetings a month on average (5 in October!) at different locations in Scotland. I organise the Glasgow branch and we have a meeting every month. I think we have a strong and growing community of people who get together and share ideas. We don't do much in the food department (other than food for thought with all the great technolgies we see) we do give away books, T-Shirts, software and so on. To date our biggest prize has been a one year MSDN Subscription worth £8000. The bottom line is, if you want that, then you are going to have to do it yourself. You can't rely on others doing that for you. I bet there are many people in your community wishing the same thing and hoping someone else will build a strong community for them. I believe INETA is quite well represented in Canada (much better than in the UK) so that may be your fist port of call if you want assistance in getting started. Alternatively, your existing user group may just need people to help them organise things. Why don't you volunteer? For anyone in the UK: Microsoft are increadibly supportive of user groups here. They even have a "community" page on thier website that advertises them. You can find details here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/aa497440.aspx[^] For Canadians, your community pages are here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-ca/aa497440.aspx[^]

I am extremely uncomfortable around other people. Your user group sounds great...

You're right. These facts that you've laid out totally contradict the wild ramblings that I pulled off the back of cornflakes packets.

Depends on whether you're into Object-Oriented programming... :-\
