i'm sure someone else has already bit into this. so optic cable comes into my garage to this "terminal" thing which needs a 3 prong elec outlet and turns it into a regular network cable, right? I probably don't need their battery backup unit, eh? And they have a "verizon" router/wifi I need to deal with now? Anybody know if I should just use my own router/wifi or connect mine to Verizon's? I think they have some control over their router, right? Their "what's next" website doesn't work worth beans... Do you got it? Please tell me it's awesome :-\ ...Steve

I've got FIOS for internet and TV. For my setup with internet/TV I have to use their special router that both the house coax and internet run into. I think this runs the communication for the set top boxes as well I think. The service runs great once it's setup. I'm getting 20meg down and 6meg up on the internet connection. The TV service is pretty good. The only problem is going through Verizon to get it all. I had non-stop headaches with them screwing up the installation date/time, and then having to come back 3 times just to get the set top boxes working. And don't get me started on the website or billing.

Thanks for the warnings :) I swapped phone from verizon to comcast. Now I have to go back - rats. Yeah, their billing systems bite. Hopefully I can navigate that ok :((

BTW, with FIOS does the router login or do you have to login via windows to access the internet? The reason I ask is I do not have any windows machines at home and they state PC and mac requirements and all I want is an internet connection. I currently have comcast and I do not have this requirement there.

The router handles any login that's going on with the Verizon network, just like Comcast. My PCs are setup to think the internet connection is "always on" with no password requirement.
Thanks. I assume the requirement is because their service people would not have a clue how to connect a linux machine to the internet. Or perhaps for the email (which I do not care about). If I get more annoyed at Comcast I may switch.
