You could always change your occupation to something like... ummm... elephant herder. They have elephants in India, right? You certainly don't have to worry about technological advances where elephants are concerned, so the act of herding will always be the same.

you're finished. Washed up. Technology always changes, if you can't change with it, you have the wrong job.

Maybe someone could come up with a web page that allows you to create a resume with a randomly selected skill set, and that makes you artificially interesting with randomly selected hobbies and personal interests.

A slightly more sarcastic version of what I said ? If the OP doesn't want to learn anything new, he's in the wrong job.

I was merely providing an alternative to being a programmer. I figured elephants were a commodity in India, so it shouldn't be to hard to gather up a bunch of them and herd them around a city, demonstrating proper herding techniques and things like that.

First suggestion... don't use all caps. Interesting how you're going to reduce your experience. Maybe by getting a lobotomy? Seriously, 7 years experience isn't all that much (well, at least for me - I've got 35 years). Sometimes it just takes time. If your not getting interviews, that means your resume may not be doing its job. Have somebody, who's good at resume writing, go over your resume to make sure that it sells you properly.

Well also other advances make it easier to remote herd. I can herd from home, I am also a member of Herd Project, a similar user group for Elephantine Logistics. We use "BullWhip" a proprietry software package from the Indian Elephant Software Company of Calcutta. Edit... Does this make me a Herd Nerd?

I think you should double your experience, and put some stuff on your resume that you haven't actually done. You'd be surprised at how many programmers are in the industry that did the same thing.

Agree...He's "begging" for someone to get him a new job, yet can't figure out VC++ is like selling a Horse Drawn Cart. They may still be useful, but most people wants something a bit faster...like a motorcar.

If you're going to stay with VC++, then accept the fact that your job opportunities are limited. Look at the market and see where VC++ is compared to other technologies and go from there. Or as mentioned, Elephant Herder is probably a pretty hot job to be in.

Is your CV on-line? Maybe there is a glaring mistake that the CP collective could kindly point out for you.

Are you working at the moment, or unemployed? A lot of recruiters will look down on somebody unemployed, assuming that there must be something wrong with you if you can't hold down any sort of job. So get something menial - office admin temping, and put that on your CV. It'll show that you have a work ethic, but just can't find relevant work.

Really, I have had recruiters refuse to work with me until I am off contract. BTW, don't get a menial job unless you need the cash. Job searching is a full-time endeavor. If you only spend 10 minutes a day, in the evening, sending out resumes you will not get anywhere. You need to call, call, call, and show up at places.
