... a pile of steaming doggy doos. I hate it! I really hate it! Document over ten pages - it crashes. Two documents open - it gets confused and, yes, crashes. Styles get re-applied, altered and/or corrupted with NO user intervention. A three-week old's kack filled nappy is a more enjoyable experience.

Are you talking about Word 2007? It crashes on me every time I close it, and I absolutely hate that freakin' ribbon.

Office 2007 blows. Outlook 2007, used in the most basic way, lost all my mail. I do not use it. It's a fitting companion for Vista.

Office 2003 on XP SP2. At home I use staroffice and it's much kinder to me.

Office + Outlook is even better. One crashes the other; then re-starting the crashee crashes the crasher. Hours of fun, when I could be doing something productive - like my froggin' job.

XL 2007 is the best of the Office package, and once you get used to it, I think it is the best version yet. Word does suck a little though. (Have you tried using spreadsheet data to form an address listing in word? Oh Boy, bring gin!)

That approach works fine for me until I have to save something in .doc format when sometimes things like diagrams unexpectedly vanish. I guess when everyone starts using .odf for their documents that will change. Russ

I like Office 2007, actually. One nice and very useful feature is the Live Preview of changes. You have to agree to that, at least.

Is that what they call that stupid bar across the top that sucks up half the screen and contains nothing I want to do to my document? As of this writing, though, I have to admit that it hasn't crashed. But since being forced to upgrade, I've been using a pencil and paper a lot...

Amazing how they manage to sell millions of copies of a program that crashes over 10 pages, those poor lawyers with their lengthy contracts having to cram them down to less than 10 pages, explains the fine print I guess.

I have to wonder what exactly you're doing to have meltdowns at the 10 page level. I've (very infrequently) had problems with 100+ page documents where the styles somehow get unstable and result in weird things happening or crashes, but never on anything smaller, IIRC all but one case of this I've seen has been from a single company base document (I'd use 'template' except it's .doc not .dot). Unfortunately the fix I've always used is to email it to the program administrative assistant to fix it. I'm not certain exactly what she does, but based on the amount of time it takes, and explanations of how she fixed minor problems that were seen prior to a blowup, I think she's completely replacing and reapplying the styles in the entire document. Changing formatting by editing the "header N" styles instead of taking text with the "header N" style and applying additional changes to it seems to reduce the occurrence of this problem. I'm picking on the headers because word's handling of numbered headers has always been a little screwy.
