Okay, I had a drink and accidentally hit "1" instead of reply. Can someone fix that? Anyhow, I know that most countries outside the US have always spent more for gas and I understand that. No matter where you live, we are paying more.

I am not sure what the local price is but gas dipped to $3.35 so that should put ethanol around your number since it has been around a $0.40 less than gas / gal. The frustration is that my suv will not take the stuff.

I haven't looked at the whisky ethanol gas yet, but it generally runs about $0.60 cheaper than regular. Happily, regular dropped to $3.15 yesterday; I think they have to bring it in on camel-back, though...

Jeeeeezuz! I think we pay like R9.41 per litre, last figure I found. I have never paid much attention to the exact price, because whatever it is, I still have to pay it. If there were competing prices I might pay attention. Still, even R10/l is damn cheap compared to your price of about R17/l. It's not all bad, Zuma says he likes Whites, so you can come stay here if you want. ;P

unfortunately the flip side is that it's only at that price because we are going into a global recession. :) On the bright side I've been playing the stock market for the past year shorting everything I can get my hands on (it's been a really good year). I actually managed to get potash puts when it was trading at 125ish.

US prices per gallon are lower than other countries, but the US gallon is also quite a bit smaller than people in the UK, Australia etc expect; so comparisons are a bit more complex. 1 US gallon = 3.79 litres 1 imperial (UK) gallon = 4.55 litres So at the moment UK petrol costs about £1.10 per litre, and the exchange rate is about £1 = $1.75. In the UK we currently pay the equivalent of a US gallon o' gas costing $7.32. Conversely a US gallon at $2.99 is the equivalent of 45p per litre in the UK. So the rumours are true, living in the US is like Britain in the 1980s! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallon[^]

Still 3.29 here. Down from 3.49 a week ago when I last tanked. OTOH I'm going to be doing a roundtrip from Johnstown PA to Albany NY (crossing the state line on US220 and taking I88 the rest of the way). Anyone know which side of the state line I should be refueling on?
