I've been using it for two or three months now, and I really like it. The adjustment period was a bit longer, since it took a while until they fixed some bugs with the most popular gadgets. I'm pretty much using it all the time, and the maximize button is something that caused me to use Gmail and especially Google Reader a lot less than ever. Oh and, yesterday I somehow switched to the old iGoogle (by switching a few times between the Classic and iGoogle view), and I really disliked it, as the smallest features make that much of a difference when you're using one page for a good amount of time. Lucky I could restore the page from a backup made a couple of hours before I messed it up.

I don't get widget start pages at all. They are so inefficient. What do you like about them? (p.s. The company I work for makes widget start pages...)

I don't really get what you mean (nor if it's actually directed at my post, sorry if it isn't), but the gadgets I'm using make loading other pages unnecessary for the lot of the time. It's not really a gateway for me anymore. e: Typo.
iGoogle is considered to be a "widget start page." Pretty much Portal 2.0. (Gadget is Google's name for widgets.)

I only got it yesterday afternoon. So far: - I like the canvas view on the new gadgets. Nice! - I can no longer move gadgets between tabs. Sux! - The left side menu uses a bit more real estate. Meh! - I heard there was going to be a persistent Google Talk applet built-in but no joy.

Just to clarify; I know a few people who like start pages and prefer them to feed readers. I accept start pages work for some people. I just think they only go so far and have been overhyped (I did a competitor analysis recently and found over 100 start page sites out there.) I think there is a blend to be had between start pages and feed readers. Nobody has done it right yet though iGoogle is heading that way.

My exposure to feed readers is EXTREMELY limited. Google Reader is the only one I use. Is there an alternative that I can use and instantly get financial data, weather reports, sports scores and e-mail?

Sadly not. A lot more work has to be done on feed readers to bring them to the mass market. Your examples (weather, sport scores and finance) are actually better suited to glance-at widgets. It is when you subscribe to several or more news feeds that I find widgets to be lacking. A blend of the interfaces would work well.
