Get drugs and sleep through it. Seriously.

That's what I'm planning on trying to do. I've got to see what they have here for over the counter sleeping pills or something like that. I really should have been given time to see a doctor, especially about any vaccines I should have, and about some sedatives.

That's a pretty good idea. I've got a quit date set and everything, but this might move that up.

Yeah, last year on holiday. KL and Langkawi - it was good, Langkawi especially. Steer clear of Penang though, its Asia's answer to Tenerife and the ferry has cockroaches trying to climb up your trousers.

OTC sleeping pills are nearly all antihistamine, at least those effective enough for unnatural circumstances. My personal favourite are Phenergan (promethazine). A dose of 25 mg to 50 mg will knock most people out for eight to ten hours, within three hours of taking, but will should leave you drowsy enough to take another dose halfway and nod off quite quickly. Please note that I have never used these for flying, only for insomnia, and please find out what you can for yourself before using them.

So, I've never really been out of the US before, and I'm leaving for Malaysia tomorrow morning for work. Anybody here ever been there? I'm hoping for some tips on what to expect.

Strangely enough, I'm flying from London to Melbourne tomorrow evening (24 hrs) and I'm also thinking this would be a good time to quit smoking. I've also stocked up on Valium as I'm told that's the way to make the journey 'seem' shorter.

                  Regards, Rob Philpott.

I found the easiest way to fly from London to Auckland was to have a 5 day layover in HK! (Seriously, if you have a break in the flight, get out of the airport if you can!

Ha! Yes, it does. I spent 2 days in Canada once, right across the border, so I consider that not really leaving the US. I'm sure all the Canadians here will have a different opinion about that.

Not sure yet where exactly I'm going... I found out yesterday at 10am that I'm leaving tomorrow at 11:30am. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle that 21 hour plane ride. I can barely go for 3 hours without a cigarette right now.

Yeah that sucks. I'm a smoker and just got back to Sydney after a week in Amsterdam which included 48 hours flying. I usually find it's not as bad as you expect it to be. You sleep for about 8 hours without a smoke every day anyway way its really not that bad. I think from memory that KL airport has a smoking room you can use before you pick up your bags and go through immigration.

There is the Silvermine beach on Lantau, I found it very reasonable in price, and it is a quiet area, which believe me, in HK is rare!. It is in Mui Wo (pron Mee Waa). Whilst you are in HK, go up the mountain (via a San Francisco style trolly bus) and see the whole of HK and Kowloon from the top, (Bring money, big mall on top and try the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co). Also... Jade Market in Kowoon, Causeway Bay for a night out, and get the Hydrofoil over to Macau. (Make Macau a whole day, but go after 9.30 am! too busy on the HFoil otherwise) Remember NOT to be shocked at the prices, HK$ 24 for a beer is still only £1.50 or so. See the HSBC building, it is huge, and also the 'House of a Thousand Arseholes'. Getting the ferry from HK ferry port at night is a sight not to forget, and if you are there on a Sunday, wander around the elevators. (This is not a lift or moving stairway, it is a whole pedestrianised area 50 feet above ground that travels between, around and through buildings! Fantastic idea, but on a Sunday is amazing!) Have fun!

Yuck. Will take note of that in case I ever visit Malaysia.

I've been to Brazil and Honduras (one day / two days), but I've never REALLY been there. I had a stopover in Panama City, but I've never really been there. ad infinitum.
