There are some really rabid anti-MS people out there. I also have the impression that a sizeable number of programmers dont like Microsoft. I'm willing to bet my last dollar that all of them would jump at the chance to work for BillG if given the chance. I love using Linux and very much prefer Opengl over DirectX any day (for my game) but if BillG came aknockin' boy would I jump! I'd still prefer Linux, etc but it would be fun to see people's faces when I tell them I work for the Evil Empire. Plus, working for MS you recieve emails from Him and get access to a bunch of cool(:~ Win98?) source code! bibamus, edamus, cras moriemur

I would. Brian Azzopardi wrote: access to a bunch of cool(Win98?) source code! I doubt, unless you were working on some Win98 device drivers. It may depend wildly on whether I'd work as a permenant Microsoft employee, or as a contractor. I hear they don't treat their contractors too well (although I cannot verify that.) Even as permenant, I probably wouldn't. I don't want to move out to the greater Seattle area... too rainy. :) You are special and unique, just like everyone else.

I'm going back to finish my bachelor degree and I still have two 4 months work term to do, so I'm considering doing one over there, should they want me to go... I've been told that they treated their employees quite well. A friend of mine knows a couple of people over there and they seem happy. Of course, working in the software industry means long weeks and short deadlines (I know! ;) ) --------------- http://www.edovia.com

What are we talking? Making cups of coffee? Cleaning the toilets? Developing software? Microsoft looks like a really fun place to work, but they have a reputation for giving employees bad hours and holidays. I'd do it just to say I worked for Microsoft. Sure, they have done some bad things to get ahead of the competition, but that's business for you. :)

That makes me remember... A guy that I worked with before went over there for an interview... They flew him from Ottawa (Ontario) to Seattle, spent 3 days over there in a huge hotel room and he had some interviews and intros to the company. He turned down the offer and went working in New Zealand instead (which is a cool move as well!!) :-D --------------- http://www.edovia.com

Yeah. Work there for 3 years and then you can go work anywhere after. It probably opens every door when MS is on your resume. --------------- http://www.edovia.com

I would work for anyone if they offered, so long as I found nothing I would be doing objectionable and the pay was reasonable. Brian Azzopardi wrote: I also have the impression that a sizeable number of programmers dont like Microsoft. Only the loudest.

i'd tell them that i don't know anything about writing C++ compilers. :) i don't like MS, and i think i could stand by that feeling, regardless of the job offer. -c
