You know, there's something about a UI that contains options like: No Clobber and Only Go Deeper that makes you wonder, just what exactly, that program does ... Honestly, I was kind of surprised it didn't also have options like: Climax on Command Oh Yes, Like That and Smoke Cigarette When Finished

Don't forget the ever popular "Harder, baby, Harder", and "Request Refund" options.

I'd have to say that I have created a UI similar to the one shown back in my younger days using VB3, to create a Windows GUI for the command-prompt ARJ compression program. :~ However, I did not make a UI like the FileMatrix program mentioned in that blog post. I think I need an exorcism to get that image out of my head... :wtf:

I don't claim to be a know it all, for I know that I am not...

I usually have an answer though.

You left off pro mode and download "as-is"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the "Pro Mode" button be something like that? :) Also, I'm probably the only one here thinking, "AWESOME!" when looking at that GUI, aren't I?

No I think its fantastic. The main reason being I've used wget a lot and man wget is a pain to get through to find that one little feature you've forgotten about. A bit ++ to the designer of this dialog. Oh and I'm not giving it to my aunt...

Exactly why I look upon our major competitors UI's and laugh. Most of them look very similar to that. If you're going to ask developers to create UI's at least make About Face and others compulsory reading. The problem isn't the bad UI, it's the underlying bad design and fear of making any policy decisions on behalf of the users. A user want's to accomplish a task, they don't want to use software or know how the software works even in the slightest way. All they want to do is as quickly and easily as possible accomplish a task and if you start to think about it that way as a developer you can start to see examples all over of task oriented vs underlying code oriented interfaces.

You're absolutely right !!! It is always better to sacrifice some functionality in the name of simplicity. Your users will appreciate this. Of course, some eye-candies won't hurt, too ;)
