that prevents our employers from moving forwards at times? I present one real-time volume 10 times more detailed than any one else has attempted in my field. In my field, because it is still small in respect to some nvidia tech demos. yet still some people attempt to prevent me from getting access to the full detail, not because it is classified, but because someone else said it is impossible to render. because someone else cannot, I cannot as well. And thus they will strive to prevent me from having the data to even make the attempt. Who knows? I might fail this time! There could be joyous celebrations at my failure! just let me try!! one of these days I really need to get my own degree... though I am sure even with one those who fight me would only use something else against me. That just happens to be the strongest reasoning to prevent my even being allowed the attempt.

I know you are just venting... but is there some way you could do some sort of cut-down rendering of it as a proof-of-concept?

Egos are funny things, and managers can be pretty fickle and short-sighted at times ... I was once dinged on a performance evaluation for "wasting time trying to solve a problem that had no solution." Yes, those are the words that were used. The worst part was that I did it on my own time, with my own resources. Of course 2 years later when I was given an industry award for that particular work and named a distinguished member of the technical society, no one remembered the evaluation, so it all worked out in the end. And me, being the forgiving and unpresumptuous type that I am, simply made a copy of the award announcement with my picture on it, autographed it, and sent it to the manager who wrote that particular evaluation.

that is what I keep doing. I just changed the software and upped it again to 9 times higher (yet again) resolution to try to convince someone to let me have the real volume data. right now I am rendering at 90 times the resolution of our nearest competitor. I don't expect it to convince anyone. I can hear the argument now: that volume represents 2.4ghz public data. We don't use that antenna. can we have the pattern you use? no, it is a measured volume so has no mathematical equivalent. no one has the ability to render it. can we try? this is running 90 times higher than what you are approximating now. no our PhDs have all agreed that no one has the ability to draw this. .... sigh... maybe I should rewrite this for 4000 times the resolution in my spare time  not that they would still listen. It is impossible therefore anything I do is a cheat....

In some cases it's that the manager told his boss that it can't be done without a higher budget/more resources etc. and if you just keep your darn trap shut you'll soon have all the toys you want. (But maybe not in this case.) :~

hehehehe I like that. :) unfortunately if I were a betting man I would give odds 10:1 in favor of the probability that the reluctance means the put in for a govt. contract for 5 million to do what I just did because it is impossible. :) if they give it to me then it is possible and they loose the 5 mil. :) that is exactly what happened with another group and our augmented reality. why build a wheel when you cand rebuild it for another 5 mill. :)

well I do admit that is why my bosses want me to get the data. as well as increasing our current primitive but optimized method I also just finished the (proven modern technique) design to take the rendering to 4096 times this resolution. And a theoretical design to take it another 64 to 256 times higher again. my job is solving the "impossible" the latter theoretical design should take it to the same scale as the nearest supercomputer without the supercomputer. :)

Start again from scratch. I mean the communication! First you should believe in yourself, believe in the value of what you did. Then you should not care about rebuttal, just be stunned and sad for for the person, not for you. After all YOU know it's awesome, if your boss can't see it, it's HIS problem (as opposed to your ;-)) With this mind set you might enjoy better success or less frustration, depending... ;-)

Why not take it to market by yourself as a beta or something. If it is any good, the market will realize it and supply you with the volume you need. Just a thought.

I would've attached a letter thanking the manager for his support in pursing that particular problem.
