Ive spend the last 11 months and 3 weeks at the same company on a 1 year contact. I havent technically phoned in sick for the whole year but this week I'm coming down with the mother of all colds, Ive got to suck it up only 7 days left before I leave. Who can beat this record of 1 year without phoning in sick? :)

In my previous company, I had worked for over an year - November 2006 to December 2007 - without taking any leave. I had to take a one day sick leave on the 30th December

Looks like you will live longer than most[^] :) (I went 2 years without sick leave or a holiday in my early twenties (except Christmas day, a few public holidays and weekends of course. Though I worked plenty of those and was online on Christmas day checking out a sick server.) These days I know better; regular holidays are good for you and make you more productive. Working stupid hours just makes you stupid.)

        cheers, Paul M. Watson.

1 day off in the last 10+ years that wasn't pre-planned: nothing at this contract (18 months+) except a wee vacation in September. A contractor turns up every day, come hail or shine and never makes pathetic excuses such as 'I've got a cold' or 'my leg fell off' or 'I'm technically dead...' I'm a contractor: I don't take time off, for any reason, ever. :-)

Is that because you get paid per day and wouldn't get the cash if you were off sick?

I usually only get so bad as to phone in sick about once every two years, but when I get it, it's usually pretty bad.

No, just using the baywatch theme tune as a way of mocking the fact that come rain or shine you will make it into work. Obviously it has gone down in flames.

Lovely. You're one of those who, come hell, high water, or snotty nose, feel it necessary to come in to the office and share your disease with your coworkers. Thanks for sharing, but get the hell home and stop spreading it around. Of course, I'm one to talk. I'm coming down with a cold, and where am I? Out in the center pasture of the cube farm where I work. Moo.

Imagine how I feel, after a decade of contracting in Oz and the Uk I get a contract in Singapore where I get paid sick leave. I found this out when I got an additional $400 at the end of the first year for not using any of it. I still cannot make myself take a sick day that is not valid.
