Publishing Software?

Does anyone here have any resources, information, etc on how one goes about actually trying to publish/market/sell applications? I've never done such a thing, but would be interested in learning how this is "typically" done. Thanx

People still publich software? In that traditional sense? I would htink if you have a downloable product you upload it to the thousands of downlo sites, like Download.com would be an excellent start.

While you did not specify type of market you are after, you might check into: http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/[^] Often you would send out PRs to about every magazine / newspaper / online community based on your market target. You might send copies of the software in for review to those market to obtain more press. Then you have to think about distribution, such as if you plan to sell it directly from your web site or perhaps, you want to market through retail stores. There are other services such as Digital River: http://corporate.digitalriver.com/store/driv/Corp/sectionName.company/subSectionName.aboutUs/page.aboutUs[^] For mass market targeted software, you also can get a bump in marketing if you create an entertaining video and pumping them onto YouTube.
