hi I'm trying to install win 98 on a new PC, the boot menu loads from the CD inside the DVD Drive but when I choose to install 98 with CD-rom support, it couldn't recognize the drive,is it the problem with DVD? what should I do? (except downloading drivers :( ) ... and I can't open the Box, it's in warranty

It might have something to do with the fact that the OS is 10 years out of date..? Regards, --Perspx

I would highly recommend installing Windows XP and using Microsoft Virtual PC[^] for the old MS-DOS applications. It is completely free and very easy to setup. Windows 98 is no longer supported and will no longer recieve security updates. It reached the end of life back in 2006[^] and is now a retired product. Anyone using Windows 98 will be subject to unpatched vulnerabilities, some of which may occur simply by surfing the internet. You should inform your boss of this and then show him how easy it is to use Virtual PC 2007[^] Best Wishes, -David Delaune

Is the client unable to use the msdos program under XP? Shouldn't be any problem doing so.

If you have a floppydrive you can always install from that. If you check the files on the cd you'll notice that they are divided into a load of similar sized cabfiles (about 1.68 MB). They'll all fit on floppies if you have the right formatting program, winimage or dcf should do fine. And then you have to spend some hours on swapping floppies, just like in the good old days.

Thx for replying. I don't know which program he uses but I asked him the same question and he said nope, it only can work in MS-Dos or at least 98,it seems that it's a very old program !
