    is anything getting better

From what I heard on TV here in France, rich people are getting richer. So, for some, yes, things are getting better.

With the Dow going up and down in such huge swings lately, is anything getting better or is the government just running out of toes and fingers for all the holes?

Based on figures reported in the US, they are in decline in greater percentages than 2003, and some are beginning to speak in whispers about the possiblity of double-digit unemployment for the first time since the early '80s.

All this stress over imaginary numbers. They should just freeze all the stock markets for a week. Sit back and watch the planet keep on turning. It's all just a bunch of kids playing with baseball cards with our faces on them. Seriously, a company makes millions in profit, but doesn't meet the expectations of a pretentious twat, so he lowers their ranking, causing the company's stock to fall.

It isn't the pretentious twat, it's the millions of lemmings who listen to him...hmmm, I like that alliteration :) FWIW, during the Internet boom, the company of which I was half the programming staff had trouble getting investors...we believed (a) it was because our business was a real brick-and-mortar with web enablement instead of Web-on-Web-for-Web (the cool thing), and (b) we were already making a 10% profit. Humans are not rational creatures, whatever their pretentions.

Yup, that was your problem, why would I want to invest in your company for a miserly 10% annual return when my Initrode stock is doubling in value every month. :wtf:

The problem goes deeper: The profit is in the millions only because some pretentious twat thinks it is in the millions. Business 101.

Most of the companies competing with us for venture cash at the time were dead two years later. We were private at the time; we needed capital to go public.

:D Practically, you'd need someone else who thinks that, too AND is rich enough to back it up. But these are technical details that we can work out for sure. ;)
