one colleague of mine wants me to ask...

an installer question. He installed win2000 advanced server on a server computer, everything is ok,then he proceed to install oracle 8i,but he installed again and again, but always failed. the setup is ok at first,he selected the packages and file copying started, but around 80% the setup process halt automatically,no warning, seems nothing happened. so is everyone here once setup win2000 and oracle 8i successfully?what do you think maybe the problems? thanks. this is my signature for forums quoted from shog*9: I can't help but feel, somewhere deep within that withered, bitter, scheming person, there is a small child, frightened, looking a way out.

This server of yours, does it contain a pentium 4 or Xeon processor? There is an 'issue' regarding the symantic jit compiler which doesn't want to recognise pentium 4 processors. A patch is available at the Oracle support site. But then again, this should prevent you from even starting the installer... Next thing to check is if you're doing the installation via terminal server? NEVER do an Oracle installation via terminal server. If this is not the case, do you have a classpath environment variable set on that win2k server. If so, remove it. I already successfuly installed a lot of Oracle 8i on win2000, so it should work. Be sure to apply the latest patchset though (currently 8.1.7.4)! Wim

I installed Oracle 8i successfully on Win2k several times. I used v8.1.6 and the standard setup, without much customization (you can do that afterwards). Anyway, if you have more details about the error i'd be glad to help. Enis Arif ----------- "I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge.
