Retested Reed - Ruminate leases : after saying leases a few times it sounds like leashes. Leash and Reed are both used for some technique in weaving. test - Alcoholic CAGEs : are a series of questions used to determine whether someone has alcoholic issues or not, thus a test. Because the word "out" is used wrap reed around test and get Retested. To Ruminate is used for over and over ... which we should do with testing ;P

You're very convincing, but alas wrong. A Bonus point for the effort that went into it though!

OK Edited. Please be aware that as I am doing this I am setting up a new MacBook for my MD, and have spent 2 hours so far, sorting out wireless connections, connecting to the LAN, installing the software, running updates etc, and so my concentration is somewhat diluted (excuse the bad pun!)

It doesn't, you are along the right lines with the ruminate = consider part.

I can think of a few other 8 letter words for ruminate but no reasoning behind. Rather than just guess I'll keep thinking and see if anyone else comes up with an answer, which quite frankly I think makes me due some swagger points for fair play!!! :)

Is the clue a tough on because ruminate is insinuating that there is an anagram made up from the solution to 'leases out' and 'alcoholic cages' (which I think is more likely to be can / glass / mug etc rather than something to do with alcoholism)??

                                          It definitely isn't definatley
