New Year's Resolutions
-
Anybody have any entertaining resolutions they'd like to share? Personally, I believe new year's resolutions are a waste of time, because if you don't have the discipline to change your behavior at any other time of year, what makes you think you're going to succeed just because the calendar changes?

I agree. I have never made a new years resolution in my life. If I want to change something, I try to change it today. And if I fail, I don't wait a year to try again. But, I'm sure most people are the same, they just see New Years as a chance to add weight to their resolution.

I have never kept a new years resolution in my life. My wife is not adverse to making resolutions for ME therefore the track record. Having given up smoking after 25 years was enough to last me for a few more years yet. Besides I enjoy the few vices I have left.

I cut down on my smoking to just having one after a meal... I'm on 20 meals a day, now! tish-boom

Continuing last years resolution which was to get in shape. I've kept at it faithfully and lost just over 30 pounds since last Feb. and have about 20 more to go. The cool part is that I've been playing ball hockey outdoors with some friends and after 15 or 20 minutes they are all gasping for breath and have to take a beer break and I'm still fresh as a daisy and want to keep playing. It's pretty easy to be the guy in the best shape amongst a group of average 40+ year olds. :)

Why we need new year's resolutions as what we are doing is wrong?? We should have daily resolution.

I resolve not to make a new year's resolution. (Oh and not to try to solve DD's CCC)

Actually you should, since I'm still waiting the gift I asked you last Christmas. ;P :)

I've made New Year's resolutions and stuck to them! For instance, last year I said I wouldn't reply to any forums and I've stuck to it...... DOH!

The big thing I don't understand about new Year's resolution is why everyone makes them negatives. Surely it would be far better to come up with something like "I'm going to train to run a marathon" rather than the endless "giving up this or that". I'm quite a fan of giving stuff up, over the last 4 or 5 years I've given up: Television, smoking, drinking and meat and I feel much better for having removed each of them from my life, but in each case I've decided that I wanted to remove the thing from my life and just got on with it. It makes no sense at all to me that people will spend what must be one of the most miserable months of the year (In the UK at least, where it's cold and dark and we can't even expect snow) wishing that they could have something that they've told themselves they don't want. I'm working towards a couple of goals in the New Year and I'm sure that Jan 1 will mark the end of the Christmas period and the start of really concentrating on these things after taking a bit of a break for Christmas but I wouldn't see that as a resolution. Well done! I've been trying to shape up over the last 6 months, it's a long slow road so far but I'm definitely seeing the benefits. (still got 20-30 pounds to go though) Russell

Many. many years ago my mother smoked a brand called 'Nelson' (UK). We always kidded her she wouldn't die of cancer but she would go blind in one eye.
