Great day

Not! My harddrive broke down at work. I lost 2 hrs of work that I can think of. Don't know how much more it'll be.. Took me 7 hrs to get a new harddrive, install Windows + 80% of my development tools. After work I went by the firing range to shoot some free pistol1. As I've just discovered free pistol shooting, I don't own my own gun yet. So I figured I'd borrow the one and only from the local club which I'm a member of. It has not been used in like 2 years or something. Guess what? Some bonehead had already taken it. My day sucked! (Ain't over yet though. Touch wood) Luckily I found a very good way of releasing my aggression. I bought myself 100 rounds of 9 mm parabellum and borrowed a Glock 172. Nothing beats a full scale assault on a piece of 1 by 1 meter paper board. 150 meter, .22 lr, one-shot, 20 gr = 0.037 lbs trigger pressure. I.e. a very delicate sport. 29 mm semi-automatic, 17 round clips, 5+ lbs trigger pressure. I.e. a very powerful handgun. Preferred storyline: - I am your father. Search your feelings and you'll know it's the truth. Together we can rule this galaxy like father and son. - Ok dad. Let's kick some butt!
Drink a . It'll help you. :)

some days ago, my "finally running" server dies (killing three HDD's - as you would recall if you followed all my posts :P) Now, it's up again. Pray thee it's still working when I get in the office tomorrow....
One day I might find it quite amusing how touching tongues make life so confusing Anne Clark again [sighist]

I know this is kind of shutting the door after the horse has bolted, and it's really not going to make your day any better, but can I recommend Norton Ghost? It'd take me about 3 days to reinstall everything, so every month or two, I backup all my system and software drives to a whole bunch of CDs (at today's prices, even 20 CDs isn't really an expensive business). I can back up my development drives onto one or two disks a couple of times a week. My harddrive crashed last week and I had all the software back up within three hours of fitting the new drive. First time I've had to test Ghost though I've been using it for ages. Paul

I know I *should* use Norton Ghost for this kind of stuff. I guess I'm too darn lazy. At work we actually use this for different Windows versions so that we can test our software against many different versions of Windows w/o needing more than one machine and having to wait 10100 hrs for Windows XYZ to install. I do use CVS for source code management (repository located on a raided and backed up server), so I do have a fair amount of safety. Everything else is pretty much replaceable. I personaly disagree with a choice(VB of handguns == plastic). Try ParaOrdnance LDA (Proud to be Canadian, eh) in either 9 mm or .45. And also I don't like "more fire power" theory (17 rounds X| ) - either shoot once correctly or don't shoot at all - as 22 sportsman, you shouldn't have problem with "single stacks". Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: I know I *should* use Norton Ghost for this kind of stuff. I guess I'm too darn lazy. I'll be honest, the only reason I do it is because I need to demonstrate that I have a plan, otherwise I'm strictly banned from working at home, seriously harming my "get up when I like, start work when I like, finish work when I like" lifestyle ;). But I was really, really pleased last week that they do this to me, it wasn't just their stuff that was saved. See, now this is what VMware is for. Create a virtual machine, zip it up, write it to CD, do what you like with it. I have hundreds of the damned things but then I spend a lot of time writing installers so I need as many configurations as I can get my hands on :) Paul

Aleksandar wrote: It's proven way - I shoot my Remington P17 (.300 win mag) in such ocassions Feels good eh? :) Aleksandar wrote: I personaly disagree with a choice(VB of handguns == plastic). Well, yes it's made out of a composite material. But it serves its purpose well. Of course, you have to customize it a great deal if you are going to compete with it (smoother trigger, sandgrips, perhaps switch to a longer barrel, etc). But I wouldn't say it's the VB of handheld guns. It's not that bad! ;P Although, I'd rather own a Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Trophy Match .40 S&W. Aleksandar wrote: And also I don't like "more fire power" It depends on what you're training/competing in. If you do bullseyes, then 5 rounds for sport/standard .22 is just fine (or single shot for free). But if you are doing PPC and/or "practical shooting"1 then the bigger the mag is the better it is for you. I know in PPC you are required to shoot as many as 32 rounds. And there is a time limit so you can't afford to change mags too often. Aleksandar wrote: either shoot once correctly or don't shoot at all - as 22 sportsman, you shouldn't have problem with "single stacks". For pure sport purposes I agree with you. You don't need more than 5 rounds for any olympic pistol match. I'm not yet sure what kind of pistol sport I'll pursue. I've been firing away since 14:th of january, and I'm about to acquire my first gun license. So far, I'm still just "mediocre". But I hope I can change that :) 1 I have no idea what this sport is called in english. Basically it's combat police/military training. You move through an area with several targets. Some targets may be non-targets (i.e. kids, polices etc.). Some targets must be shot from a special position (like through a small hole in the wall located at knee height). And you are timed of course, so you'll have to run and shoot at the same time. Preferred storyline: - I am your father. Search your feelings and you'll know it's the truth.
