There seem to be more questions posted about using VM software for development tasks. I was just wondering if it would be useful to have a separate VM forum?

    Best wishes, Hans

sounds like a good idea - VM issues will only be more and more prevalent in future I saw a great VM article posted here the other day that made me go and download the SDK and have a look - gosh its evolved ! 'g'

"more and more" seems to be words that people use more and more to emphasize their assumptions when no actual proof is present ;-) Aside from that, I would vote for a VM forum, too.

Has my vote. I'v just (well couple months ago) moved our entire development system to VM and would be nice to have a place I can ask a couple questions (well most I found out already with google or asking around or just hitting a brick wall :P).

fair cop - I was busy at work and wanted to say 'yes, Id vote for a VM forum', but didnt have time to qualify/quantify why I thought so, beyond 'more and more' - aka the lazy option. so being a customer of EMC, and working with them before and since they purchased VMWare :- If you beleive their sales figures and the number of medium-large customers like us attending their seminars who have moved to VMWare/Virtualisation, or have definate plans to, you would 'get a feeling' that there will be more customers = potentially more issues etc <insert cheeky grin> Sorry, still not enough to satisfy your precise germanic nature Im sure, but its too late to call our EMC rep and ask for some stats, ok :-) </insert cheeky grin> What was that quote ? "x % of statistics are made up on the spot" ?? cheers Uwe, Garth

Hehe, thank you very much. To be fair, I am rather sure I am not the average German guy. Even my mother calls me, among other things, "pedantic". From what I have heard from a large EMC customer, they do make their SAN prices based on the moon phases, the day of the year and what the sales guy has for breakfast this morning. Which results in a span from +/- 100% from day to day. He ended up buying his next SANs from Toshiba (or some other Japan company which name I may be confusing - even as a German ;-)).

Has my vote as well. VM is the perfect application for finger pointing i.e. it's the other guy's problem. So some independent help would probably be much appreciated. I am in the process of trying to virtualize a firewall app and have run into a brick wall on sortting out the physical and virtual nic cards.
