So, anyone using it? Anyone able to point me to any advantages of it? Is it really used as much as 'they' want you to belive?

I think that has more to do with the tools used than anything. If more apps had built-in support for it then you could tweet without even trying :) I am still getting used to that word...

Yup - it's pretty much replaced my blog now for simple daily "what I'm up to" posts intended to keep friends and family informed of my doings. It's also far more convenient to post a "hey, this link is interesting" style post, than write a full blog post containing just links (and it's simple enough to integrate with an existing web page and show a "most recent twitter message" box) The big problem with Twitter seems to be that people feel compelled to subscribe to everyone under the sun, meaning their page gets full of lots of spam (and the half-conversation effect, where you subscribe to only one party in a two party conversation) - if you keep your subscriptions to a minimum of interesting sources, it's far more interesting!

Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit! Buzzwords!

It seems that the big new thing will always require less thought and action on behalf of the participants than the big last thing as this ensures that the users don't notice how useless the thing really is.

Have you ever used an IM program, like GChat or AIM? Then you kinda know what Twitter is about. See, one day, someone was sitting around, chatting up a storm, and suddenly stopped and thought,

"Whoa... This would be great, if only I could be talking to everyone instead of just one person - The World should not be deprived of the wisdom dripping from my fingers. Oh, and I shouldn't have to listen to the dull replies of everyone else either, unless I really want to, and already know the person replying. And everything I write should be limited to 140 characters. Because I need to compose using my cell phone while I'm driving."

                          And The World replied, "Squeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

I didn't get it either, and said so in a Lounge post last year. Now that I've been using it quite a bit, it's useful. I've found many times I wish to post a link to friends, write a short blog post, or a quick rant about something. Twitter is for that. I also use it to keep up on what friends and family are doing. It's not for everybody.

I think that has more to do with the tools used than anything. If more apps had built-in support for it then you could tweet without even trying :) I am still getting used to that word...

Well what's wrong with email? If you need something a bit more realtime, then there's IM. Or if you need to truly "broadcast" there's IRC. Exactly what problem does Twatter really solve? Other than serve as a yet-another-implementation to an already solved problem. Hell if you think about it, it's just a blog that a whole bunch of people can subscribe to via an RSS feed that gets updated in real time.

Because I need to compose using my cell phone while I'm driving. which wouldn't work in the places have laws prohibiting reading or writing cell phone text while driving (an addition to hands free cell only laws)

If only those laws were inforced. I can't tell you how many times I've see idiots in their SUVs driving around oblivious to traffic while blabbing on a cell phone. Makes me wish for a light saber.
