Last weekend Hubby found an Atari system in really nice condition. It was made in 1981 specifically for Sears and had a cover so major scratches or dings. Came with Donkey Kong, Pac Man, etc. I know they remake these games for every new gaming console, but it was kind of fun and nostalgic to play the games on an old Atari. Oh, and it doesn't work on an LCD screen before anyone tries that. So for those who grew up gaming, what was your favorite game(s) and on what systems?

Original NES. We only had about 5 games we paid for but traded a working lawnmower for about 200 hundred. I played the Atari as well but it did not hold a candle to Nintendo.

Never even heard of Atari. Seems we have a generation gap. Anyways I still enjoy playing Pacman.

They have been resurrected several times and still Publish games. In fact I think they were involved in the release of D3iver a couple of years, or however long, ago.

arcade: Q-Bert - last time I played it, I popped in 25 cents, played for 4.5 hours, hit exactly 2,000,000, killed off all of the additional Q-Berts, put my name in to the high score and left the building - the arcade owner did come up to me a few times and asked "Is that the same game?" and "We are closing at 12:30 am" :-D

Computers for the masses, not the classes - Commodore 64 And favorite game? Oh there was so many - it was time when playability was main goal of the game developers, after all you had to make job of moving rough sprites around screen to be fun somehow. Today it's enough to throw better 3D graphic and hordes will run to shops to buy new game just to look at textures and shadow, reflection and fog effects.

There used to be a DOS game called Digger that I loved. And one of my first game addictions was Prince of Persia (the first version).

ZX Spectrum 48K and the games were: Match Day, Highway Encounter, Chequered Flag, ... :)

Robotatron and Stuntrap, oh and Necromancer...hmmm Joust...oh yah... really like Battlezone (I was legend on that game)... hmm... Sinastar... loved that game, my sister would yell screaming when Sinistar [^]would say in his deep voice RUN,RUN,RUN. Oh by the way I have an Atari 800xl, with about 60 or so cames and the world famous "Atari" word processor PaperClip. Break it out every now and then and play. Good to know about LCD. There has to be a scan converter out there to fix that.

I remember my Vic20, our first computer. Blitz and Frogger, what awesome games. Although, playing track and field, Konami Hyper Soccer and Top Gun on the NES are some fond memories. Watching AVGN rip Top Gun apart the other month made me a little sad

Yep, they are pretty much the same. The exe name for one version was digger.exe. So we all ended up calling it Digger :-) The accompanying 4-bit music/sound through the PC speaker amazed us all back then.

My favorite was Elite[^] which was originally develloped for Acorn BBC[^] but I played it on Sinclair ZX Spectrum[^] Another one was Jet Set Willy[^]

The first Nintendo Mario and one with a helicopter flying inside some caves/some local product/ were my favorites from the console games. From the PC games the first game I beloved was old DOS game named “Privateer“ with the Clive Owen staring in the cut-scenes. I still can’t find a match for this game among the new ones.

My favorite 80s era games would probably be Zaxon and Centipede, both IIRC first on a trash80. Most of my gaming has been from the mid 90s and forward. Favorites from then on: Masters of Orion, Civ2-4, Simcity2/3, HOMM1-5, Stars!, Wing Commander (1, 2, and privateer), The Operational Art of War series.
