Hey i'm younger than 25 and i have played on the atari. I think it was the 2600 (The 1986 version) Clickety[^]. There was a game i used to play don't quite remember what the name was but it involved flying a plane on a pink background and flying over fuel cans to refuel. And there were the classics of course PacMan and Donkey Kong. I still have it around at my mom's place I think. Will have to take the dust off and see if it still works. Corrected link

Last weekend Hubby found an Atari system in really nice condition. It was made in 1981 specifically for Sears and had a cover so major scratches or dings. Came with Donkey Kong, Pac Man, etc. I know they remake these games for every new gaming console, but it was kind of fun and nostalgic to play the games on an old Atari. Oh, and it doesn't work on an LCD screen before anyone tries that. So for those who grew up gaming, what was your favorite game(s) and on what systems?

Ummm, i'd say Amiga, and anything that smelled like Shoot'em Up... RType sort of games I also had a ZX Spectrum, and i'd go for the Manic Miner type of games!

Never even heard of Atari. Seems we have a generation gap. Anyways I still enjoy playing Pacman.

I remember my Vic20, our first computer. Blitz and Frogger, what awesome games. Although, playing track and field, Konami Hyper Soccer and Top Gun on the NES are some fond memories. Watching AVGN rip Top Gun apart the other month made me a little sad

blitz; looking back on it about the most boring game you could dream up but we spent hours playing it at the time.

I used to play a fantastic game on the bbc called Thrust were you had to fly a space ship about and pick up a heavy ball that behaved as a pendulum and get back out with it. I found a version that had been recompiled for the PC a couple of years ago but only managed about 4 levels, it seemed really hard.

My first system was an Atari ST model and I love to play Crystal Castles[^] Then I moved on to an PC where Prince of persia did the trick. I'm addicted to gaming ever since. ;P

If you don't come clean you will get the third degree. I think her name is Sheila Something or other. Also assuming Prince Charles doesn't want her. Seriously, they keep getting bought out when just on the point of collapse by people who think the Atari name will somehow provide filler for their hole filled business plans.

My brother is 18 years old and he does not just know Atari, but he has also played it. It is no excuse and a real shame. It is like to be an astrounaut and not know about the first man to step on the moon. Atari, not the first, but the god of all consoles. By the way, my first favorit game ever: "River Raid" ;)

Hey now...I'm 22, and I was playing Pitfall on my brother's friend's 2600 up until about two years ago. Wow. That kinda sounds soap-opera-ish.

Hmm, played alot of different ones thru the ages, but the one I really remember was one very few ever played. Back in the early/mid 70's (yes 1970's) I was in the Navy, and in our aircraft we had seperate monitors that did different types of functions but were connected to the onboard computer systems. There was a training "tape" that had this aircraft Icon flying across the top of the monitor in one direction, a boat icon on that would be the surface of the ocean and a submarine icon below it moving in the opposite direction. The idea was one person at one monitor would drop bombs from the aircraft to sink the ship/sub and the other person at the second monitor sub would fire missles...great way to "work" during slow periods or war and such.

I have a really old Intellivision which I used to love. Too many games to name that were great on that thing. The funniest games to try playing are the sports games, they were as basic as you could possibly imagine back then, lol. I'm guessing danish hasn't heard of Intellivision if he didn't know Atari.

A friend growing up had a C64 and a weird game called Realm of Impossibility which was basically a 2d maze game with weird optical illusion graphics. That was my earliest favorite if you don't count pong or asteroids at the arcade. :)

Boy, was that a long time ago! I do not remember the illusions though. C64 was a great machine for its time. I still have a Commodore 64 Executive (like a portable computer with built in 3" (might have been 4") color monitor and floppy disk drive). I think out of all the years on C64, one of the top games was Jumpman Junior. That was fun! Beach Head wasn't bad either. Of course I spent hours on Mr Do's Castle (or something close to that). The game though that I think I spent the most time on was Zork. BTW, if you are taking a trip down memory lane with the C64, this is an interesting site: http://www.lemon64.com/[^]

So for those who grew up gaming, what was your favorite game(s) and on what systems?

for me it was the C64, too. Long time ago. But I do remember the games very well: Uridium, Paradroid, Turrican (a "newer" one) (all from Andrew Braybrook, when I remember right). International Karate+, Giana Sisters, the list is endless. What a great time. This was the time, when programming was pure fun. Lucky times Cheers Hiro

Scott Adams Adventure games on a Texas Instruments TI994a. Programs were saved and loaded from an external cassette drive. I think this was around 1980 or so.
