You didn't forget to explain both special and general theory of relativity did you? You can't just let them leave with half the truth! ;) Preferred storyline: - I am your father. Search your feelings and you'll know it's the truth. Together we can rule this galaxy like father and son. - Ok dad. Let's kick some butt!

I think I'd confused them enough already by that point... ;) Besides which I can do Quantum Theory and Schrodinger's Cat while hungover, (they're wierd enough to make sense in that state) but I have to think about Relativity. "Be yourself - not what others think you should be"

For want of a more (less?) appropriate phrase... Holy Crap! We really do get weak-assed JWs around our area, these guys are hardcore. The Antichrist is anyone who denys what the bible says about christ? DUDE! I'd often wondered about myself. Ya know what? I don't think I'll be asking such questions in their chatroom. This was supposed to be amusing, now I'm kinda scared :omg: Paul

I didn't read through the whole site, but I would guess that a lot of it is FUD. After all, it's another religious organization who are trying to tell us how bad JW is, not some objective news article. Jon Sagara Red Swingline Staplers

Hehehe! Yeah. Actually, when I hear about any of these cults, I always think of an episode of Millennium called Jose Chung's Doomsday Defense. Particularly memorable because it was extreme silliness in the middle of a really dark serious season. The cult in that was known as Selfosophy, entirely based around the idea of being cheerful all the time, very funny. Paul

It's been a long time since I studied any physics, so nothing of the above makes any sense anymore. :) But once upon a time I read book shelves on these topics. I could conceptualize and relate to numbers what would happen near speed of light/infinity. I could even vaguely visualize gravity wells and space/time 4d spaces. I even got it confirmed by some drawing attempts I found in a book. Schrödingers cat and the concept of "You don't know what it is until you've examined it" and the consequences of that was easily grasped. Quantum theory however is where my brain wouldn't cope anymore. I cannot for my life get an image of what particle spin is. All I get is static. Strings and X dimensions where X > 4 is just not within reach. At this point I figured I'd be a computer scientist instead of a physicist. Although, I am curious though how far I could've gone if I would've pursued physics at college. Who knows, I could have been smashing particles at CERN now. (But I would most likely have been a FORTRAN programmer as well :~) By the way, are you a physicist? (Had to ask.. :)) Preferred storyline: - I am your father. IIRC, they believe that heaven is about to be overcrowded? And those who won't make it into heaven will automatically be transfered to you-know-where. I might be off-side on this one since I normally don't pay attention to looney cults. :) But I'm positive I've read this somewhere... Preferred storyline: - I am your father. Okay, before I start, I want to note that I'm starting this as a more light-hearted diversion to the serious debate on guns we've been having today. I am not out to offend anyone and I really shouldn't be taken seriously. So, if you're likely to be offended, based on the title and the first paragraph, please go to another thread now... ... Okay, that's those people out of the way. Now I have a question that's been plaguing me for years. David Wulff said something in another thread that just triggered it off again. Jehovas Witnesses - does anybody actually let them in? Alternatively, does anyone have a serious conversation with them? I've taunted them, told them I'm a satanist, told them that I worship the great god-king of the bee-people (I went on for five minutes then challenged them to prove their explaination is more valid than mine), I've slammed the door on them with the best of you. I even had a serious philosophical debate with a pair of Jehovahs Witnesses when I was doing a school project Market Research thing and got bored but I failed to ask the one really important question. What motivates you to do what you do? Has anyone ever had them knock on the door on a Saturday morning and said "sure, come in, have a coffee, sell god to me"? And if not then what is their motivation? What is the purpose of going door-to-door to be ridiculed at 10% and see the other 90% shut firmly before the Watchtower is out? If there's actually anyone out there who does this sort of thing, I really would like to know. I'm not trying to mock anyone, though I do find it amusing, I'm just asking the question. Paul

I personally haven't let them in. Usually when asked by them if I believe in God, I reply - No, he doesn't believe in me so why should I believe in him. This usually has the running away. (Although it might be the psychotic look in my eye) I have friends though who love to invite them and get into long arguments about God and religion. They think it's good for a laugh. Michael :-) Programming is great. First they pay you to introduce bugs into software. Then they pay you to remove them again.

I once had them knock around at 10am on New Year's Day. Not surprisingly, I had to get out of bed to answer the door. Needless to say I was not a happy bunny. Rather than just having a go at them (I think they expect that) I explained to them about Schrodinger's Cat, Quantum Mechanics and the Big Bang Theory for about half an hour or so...and they went away looking very, very, confused. I couldn't have done it if I'd been sober though! ;P "Be yourself - not what others think you should be"

Easy to spot because they DRESS IN THE MOST BORING WAY POSSIBLE !!!!!!!!!!!! There is one other point. Accoridng to them its not being a good person that gets you into heaven but being a good Jehovas witness. From what I can see, helping others without asking for a reward later does not interest god. I've found that they seem to have some kind of rule about not preaching to friends and family. I knew a girl at school who was a Jehovas witness (my Mum and I had great fun trying to decide whether to buy a present or not when I was invited to her birthday party, despite knowing that they don't really celebrate birthdays) This was years ago (Haven't seen her in almost 13 years now), but the last time I was back in my home town, and Jehovas Witnesses came to the door, I did my usual be polite but don't look too interested thing, until they mentioned that they were Witnesses, at which point I asked about the girl. Oddly they instantly switched from trying to preach and became normal chatty people and we had a quick chat about what she's doing now, and that I'd been to university and was now looking for a job, and that she'd been doing the rounds with them in the morning, so I'd only missed her by a few hours. After that they said their goodbyes, and left. So the moral of the story is befriend a Witness. (On a related story, my Granddad used to live opposite an elderly Christian Vicar who had a huge white beard and busy white hair, and used the approach of saying "Yes, I'm God!" when asked if he had any religious beliefs, which usually freaked out the visitors enough to make them leave quickly) -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

Search your feelings and you'll know it's the truth. Together we can rule this galaxy like father and son. - Ok dad. Let's kick some butt!

They don't believe in hell at all. They believe that anyone doomed to hell will simply no longer exist after death. No soul, no afterlife for the damned. Jason Gerard

Ok, I'm not a Jehovah's Witness, but your statement about the Antichrist being anyone denying Christ is true. The bible doesn't teach about one Antichrist that is going to take over the world and start the Apocalyspe as taught in the popular theory of premillenialism which is ascribed too by most people calling themselves Christians. The word antichrist means "against Christ". Therefore, if you are not for Christ, you are against him. Antichrist. Here are the only 4 passages in the whole Bible that use the word Antichrist. 1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. 1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 1 John 4:3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. 2 John 1:7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. Jason Gerard
