Even if I do... who cares. Seriously this place is could be reproduced and I really mean it with a decent bot and some average AI.
If you like this message don't vote me a 5 unless you thought of it. I'm not some wanna-be trying to get stupid votes to get an MVP here. The fact is I should be an MVL "Most Valuable Lounger" because ... everybody can put there feet on me to make themselves comfortable and I'm fine with that. The vote-count MVP system is broken and flawed. MVPs should be elected by peers in the group who understand what's really happening in the specific forums. I love Chris but vote's should have no place in ranking MVPs. NONE! - - - {Mark Salsbery approves this message.}
I disagree. I cite this thread of yours as Exhibit A.

code-frog does not post as often as he used to due to personal reasons, but they are often thought provoking. When he posts, I make sure to take the time to read the entire posts--I do not always do that.

Personally I find I sometimes I have to print them out and go find some coffee in order to fully appreciate them. Strong coffee.

Agreed; I think most of us are used to no more than a couple of paragraphs with less than 4-syllable words. I have found that most of his posts over the last 3 months or so I need to read at least twice to truly appreciate. Now, that might because I'm a lush, but I'm not sure. :-D

You've not been here very long then. (Less than one month apparently) Back in the day the servers would creak and scream out in pain at the size of the messages. Good quality too (most of them).

Yes, to be precise about 23 days. :-)

Is there any character limit on message (e.g. 2000 char max) or it does not matter. The bad thing (according to me I guess) it makes the page scrollable rather than making the message div scrollable.

I don't think there is a char limit; trust me, those of us who've been around awhile have seen posts in the forums with pages of code. However, most people will not read past a certain point based on personal preference. Welcome to the digital age!

ok, Ive seen a reference (penned by yourself) to you and a like for white wine (hope I'm remembering correctly) .. but unless there's a different definition/colloquial use of the term 'lush' in the US, I'd say 'I dont think so' (btw, glad the blog is back) Garth (see, I'll even use my full name rather than the usual 'g')

I agree; however, after a certain amount of time I have realized that there are those "elders" on the site (not meaning age, but experience) that I pay more attention to. Like Colin Angus McCay (might have the last name wrong...sorry Colin!) I have learned is a superb brain when it comes to SQL and LINQ; I don't care how long his posts are (and they are usually short); I will read them. I suggest to all newer people to learn who are the "regular's;" (at least within the forums and The Lounge; we have WAYYYY too many regulars in the Soap Box who contribute nothing) and learn to read their responses to not only forum questions, articles, but also The Lounge, because it can yield a lot of knowledge. I know I owe a lot of my knowledge to this site, and I don't deny it for a second.

Oh yeah, I'm a lush (aka drunk) and yes, it's the sweet white wines that I love like Reisling or Gewurtztraminer. None of that pinot blanc crap! How is your old 'too doing? Is he still visiting your yard?

havnt seen that particular one for a while - guess he 'slipped off the perch' .. we have a lovely green lorikeet - with a orange/yellow belly that is on the window-sill most days, mum feeds her seed, bread. She's got a short finch-like beak ('mal/deformed' for a lorikeet) and a deformed foot so mum takes pity on her :-) http://www.ozanimals.com/Bird/Red-collared-Lorikeet/Trichoglossus/haematodus%20rubritorquis.html[^] (I know the distribution says they live in the north of Aus, but this is more like what we have here in Syd) How's your 'menagerie' ? I remember a couple years ago when I was like, "datagrid? please to tell me how...I'm a girl and so dumz...." No that's not what I posted but I look back and feel that way. I am glad you acknowledge to expertise of the "elders." When noobies do that I always try to take a few extra minutes (if they are not demanding all the code at once b/c it's URGENT; most answer b/f me...) to help them with their issues; it's what others did for me. I have to admit, when your country is listed as "India" many of us start the post in the negative...that just comes with our experiences although I have worked w/many students from India who were awesome programmers/employees. I cannot think of anything you have done to piss me off (and I used to keep a list that some would reference b/f answering questions) so keep up the good work, and the drive to be a great programmer!

Glad I don't drive to work any more. I live 20 minute walk from my office and it is great. I pass under the M8 each day and I can see the traffic is always at a near stand still. The only time I ever really drive on the motorway any more is out of peak hours. I can make my flat to the edge of the city in 7 minutes. When I lived outside and drove into work it would take me 40 minutes to do the same distance.

So, I no longer work in a call centre. The intelligence of my colleagues has gone up. But they are not so outrageous. I used to work with a lesbian that had very active and open relationships. I learned more from over hearing her conversations than I ever did in sex education classes at school.

For those of you thinking I've lost it. Nope. This place is just boring. I'm going to shake it up. It's so predictable I can tell you with near certainty what 50% of tomorrows post will be. Nobody here really cares. They close the browser and leave. So why not shake it up and stir the pot... I don't know... why not? I've finally come to see this playground for what it is. What it is is hilarious. Guys like Jim Crafton, Juan Ramos, Colin, Vector, Ray, Gary, Trollslayer, Mustafa, Dan, Mike and the rest. You know you are. I don't have to list you but you know who you are. You guys are real. You talk, to don't complain incessantly about the people who read your articles and their dumb questions. You post real stuff. You talk about your life the parts of your life that you value. You share stories that tell us about you as a person, thinker and human being. You share humor. You share pain. You share loss. You share what keeps life real. Even John Simmons is starting to actually develop educated well-formed thoughts about how managers and companies are screwing up stuff with Dilbert-like ignorance. That's the stuff that's real. You guys that cast the votes and make these glib and ignorant comments without even asking a question to inquirer what the OP meant are what is making this place hard to stomach at times. You are supposed to smart, educated, patient engineers and scientists. You are not supposed to missile-lock on one view but you should be open to them all. You don't have to agree but if you don't agree... show your education by at least adding more than 1 sentence to your low vote. NO! The votes don't bother me. They really don't. What gets me is that you have allowed yourself to become a spectator in life and you have forgotten you are a participant. Sometimes people share things that mean something to them. Sometimes they are celebrating something of historical importance or personal significance. Don't just blow it away with a low vote because you are too lazy to understand that even though their view is not your view they chose to share it with you. It's that they wanted to be right. It's not they needed a trail of red replies making them legends in their own minds at all. Instead, people share things here so you can get to know them. You can learn about them. You can celebrate with them. Your can artfully and articulately disagree with them. But all too often what I see here now is that people don't read something gain an appreciation for the OP they read something to come to one of 3 c

Too seriously? Did I chain myself to a tree? Have I burned a bob flag? Or did I just simply point out some behaviors that are becoming a trend? Actually... it's your call. Just soes you knows I'm having the time of my life. I've not seen a reaction this good in a spell. In fact I think I rather enjoy it. Carefully considering what I'm going to do next. Boring, Predictable, Same-ol-Same = Lounge Time to change that and have some fun.

I wouldn't know, since I don't take internet forums seriously enough to notice trends. Noticing such things sort of implies I'd have to pay attention and that takes more effort than I'm willing to expend.

All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from, there they return again. All things are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing. What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; There is nothing new under the sun.
As a child, i loved to go walking through the woods around our farm. There was always something new, something interesting to grab my attention. The best places were where the tall trees had been cut out, the logs trimmed and dragged up trails cut into the hill. Brush and scrap covered the ground, better than any jungle-gym for climbing on and chasing through. Within a few years, new trees sprang up where old ones had formerly shaded the ground, mushrooms grew near stumps, and briars clogged the paths. Someday, i'll go back and fail to recognize anything. People change, come, and go. For better or worse, but always and without fail. And some of what arises in the place of what has departed is worth the loss. You speak well of my past contributions here; i'm flattered, but also humbled that you would consider my writing worth remembering, or my influence positive. Because in the time i've been here, i've engaged in all of the activities you describe, good and bad, and far more glib comments and shallow arguments than anything worth remembering. Indeed, it is concern over my tendency toward thoughtless arrogance and selfish manipulation that has caused me to step back of late, posting less and trying to put more thought into what i do post. Truth is, i'm sure i irritated some of the regulars when i first showed up. And i'm just as certain that some of the people i miss seeing around were already gone or going when you joined up. It's like... the circle of life or something... just a few less baboons threatening to drop lion cubs on your head. Don't look to the past. Don't worry about the present. Look to the future, post about your hopes and dreams, things you hope to do, foods you hope to eat... Consider that today, right now, there are people reading this thread that will be posting crap here tomorrow and brilliant essays a year from now, maybe inspired by your example. It's been a heavy week, micro
