Too seriously? Did I chain myself to a tree? Have I burned a bob flag? Or did I just simply point out some behaviors that are becoming a trend? Actually... it's your call. Just soes you knows I'm having the time of my life. I've not seen a reaction this good in a spell. In fact I think I rather enjoy it. Carefully considering what I'm going to do next. Boring, Predictable, Same-ol-Same = Lounge Time to change that and have some fun.
If you like this message don't vote me a 5 unless you thought of it. I'm not some wanna-be trying to get stupid votes to get an MVP here. The fact is I should be an MVL "Most Valuable Lounger" because ... everybody can put there feet on me to make themselves comfortable and I'm fine with that. The vote-count MVP system is broken and flawed. MVPs should be elected by peers in the group who understand what's really happening in the specific forums. I love Chris but vote's should have no place in ranking MVPs. NONE! - - - {Mark Salsbery approves this message.}

I wouldn't know, since I don't take internet forums seriously enough to notice trends. Noticing such things sort of implies I'd have to pay attention and that takes more effort than I'm willing to expend.

For those of you thinking I've lost it. Nope. This place is just boring. I'm going to shake it up. It's so predictable I can tell you with near certainty what 50% of tomorrows post will be. Nobody here really cares. They close the browser and leave. So why not shake it up and stir the pot... I don't know... why not? I've finally come to see this playground for what it is. What it is is hilarious. Guys like Jim Crafton, Juan Ramos, Colin, Vector, Ray, Gary, Trollslayer, Mustafa, Dan, Mike and the rest. You know you are. I don't have to list you but you know who you are. You guys are real. You talk, to don't complain incessantly about the people who read your articles and their dumb questions. You post real stuff. You talk about your life the parts of your life that you value. You share stories that tell us about you as a person, thinker and human being. You share humor. You share pain. You share loss. You share what keeps life real. Even John Simmons is starting to actually develop educated well-formed thoughts about how managers and companies are screwing up stuff with Dilbert-like ignorance. That's the stuff that's real. You guys that cast the votes and make these glib and ignorant comments without even asking a question to inquirer what the OP meant are what is making this place hard to stomach at times. You are supposed to smart, educated, patient engineers and scientists. You are not supposed to missile-lock on one view but you should be open to them all. You don't have to agree but if you don't agree... show your education by at least adding more than 1 sentence to your low vote. NO! The votes don't bother me. They really don't. What gets me is that you have allowed yourself to become a spectator in life and you have forgotten you are a participant. Sometimes people share things that mean something to them. Sometimes they are celebrating something of historical importance or personal significance. Don't just blow it away with a low vote because you are too lazy to understand that even though their view is not your view they chose to share it with you. It's that they wanted to be right. It's not they needed a trail of red replies making them legends in their own minds at all. Instead, people share things here so you can get to know them. You can learn about them. You can celebrate with them. Your can artfully and articulately disagree with them. But all too often what I see here now is that people don't read something gain an appreciation for the OP they read something to come to one of 3 c

All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from, there they return again. All things are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing. What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; There is nothing new under the sun.
As a child, i loved to go walking through the woods around our farm. There was always something new, something interesting to grab my attention. The best places were where the tall trees had been cut out, the logs trimmed and dragged up trails cut into the hill. Brush and scrap covered the ground, better than any jungle-gym for climbing on and chasing through. Within a few years, new trees sprang up where old ones had formerly shaded the ground, mushrooms grew near stumps, and briars clogged the paths. Someday, i'll go back and fail to recognize anything. People change, come, and go. For better or worse, but always and without fail. And some of what arises in the place of what has departed is worth the loss. You speak well of my past contributions here; i'm flattered, but also humbled that you would consider my writing worth remembering, or my influence positive. Because in the time i've been here, i've engaged in all of the activities you describe, good and bad, and far more glib comments and shallow arguments than anything worth remembering. Indeed, it is concern over my tendency toward thoughtless arrogance and selfish manipulation that has caused me to step back of late, posting less and trying to put more thought into what i do post. havnt seen that particular one for a while - guess he 'slipped off the perch' .. we have a lovely green lorikeet - with a orange/yellow belly that is on the window-sill most days, mum feeds her seed, bread. She's got a short finch-like beak ('mal/deformed' for a lorikeet) and a deformed foot so mum takes pity on her :-) http://www.ozanimals.com/Bird/Red-collared-Lorikeet/Trichoglossus/haematodus%20rubritorquis.html[^] (I know the distribution says they live in the north of Aus, but this is more like what we have here in Syd) How's your 'menagerie' ? My 'toos are doing well but they are getting cabin fever like they normally do this time of year. Where we used to live there was a window so they kind of learned that if there was white stuff on the ground it was not warm enough to go outside. Since we no longer live in a split level (birdies prefer the basement) they have no clue of the seasons unless I take them out on a regular basis. Oi I love lorikeets! I remember being at Wilson's Prompt (might be wrong name but farthest point of mainland AUS before Tasmania in the SE corner) and many that would flock on people for food, even though they are nectar eaters. So colorful, such personalities....how can you NOT love lorikeets? :-D

No, let me guess, they start pulling feathers out ? >> Wilson's Prompt yeah, know where you mean :-) I think its 'Promontory', but Ive never been a 'I say tomatoe' and thats all I'll ever understand type of guy - its a pointless waste of time if people understand each other

.. yes, I feel guilty sometimes becuase we are endangering them by treating them with 'human kindness' - maybe long term they'd be better off if they wernt so lovable and we didnt look after the strays, but, my parents live with me and our place is too small for a dog, we're not cat people, so Mum talks to the birdies (ok, she's off with the fairies sometimes, thats a different issue)

I'm sorry, I understood almost none of that due to your revolting use of the English language. Please learn a language before you decide to slaughter it on an international stage. Oh, and maybe it might pay to share your deepest feelings with someone you know and trust - talk about 'real stuff' with real people (not that the people on the Internet aren't real, it's just that most of our communication is achieved through speech and body-language; words aren't always enough, and to beat my ol' war drum again, that's why your written word must be excellent - that way giving you the highest chance of being understood). As you said yourself, a half-decent slab of AI could reproduce this forum. I would think that by making that statement you invalidate your own purpose in being here or ranting in the first place. Appealing to a computer to share its knowledge and talk about won't get you very far. "That's the stuff that made us all closer." Although mateship and empathy for the losses of others is a noble trait, that's creepy Internet-stalker shit. I don't know who you are, you don't know who I am, our parents have never met nor have I or you been in the other's house - even a 4 year old could tell you that means you're a stranger. You don't share personal information with strangers! "I loved reading about Shogs trips through the mid-west to visit family." Again, others' stories can provide useful insight into unknown territories, but stories don't last forever. Why not go make some of your own? My point is that the world might as well be infinitely large when juxtaposed with the scope of an average human life. Go and explore some of that instead of sitting around the 'poisoned waterhole' drinking yourself to death and whining about it the whole fucking time! I hate it when people whine about their own predicament when they're the one best suited to changing it. P.S. I quite enjoy CodeProject, personally. P.P.S. This time, the OP did come off as a total dick P.P.P.S. Have a great day! :-D

Way, way too long. If you want people to pay attention you have to make it less impenetrable. I'm not saying I disagree with you, mostly because it was too boring to finish reading.

I do speak at conferences and user groups - I'm quite happy to come to America to do that. I've got Camtasia, so I'll have a wee think about what to talk about. How about a video tutorial on how to use Virtual Earth?

Will we all be dragged kicking and screaming into the utopia of Code-frogProject, or do we get a say?

To be honest, Hubby was watching all my posts like a hawk. He thought any little thing might prevent me from getting a job. After a few months he has really let loose; he even gave me a blog topic tonight and I have not blogged since October! Now that my Big Brother/You-Aren't-My-Real-Dad seems to feel comfortable, I'll rock this Lounge like my personal beatch. :)
Back in the blog beatch! http://CraptasticNation.blogspot.com/[^]
I had been wondering! I enjoyed checking in with your blog, after you moved from here. I was beginning to think one too many peoople had blocked your road, and the authorities had found some of the remains. Iain.

Gosh! What can I say? Things change. You are right it isn't the same as it was. I remember great conversations with Anna, Paul (who I still follow on Twitter, but it isn't quite the same - He's moved to Ireland, got married and has a little girl now), Roger and Shog. I remember the increadibly insiteful debates had with Ian Darling (who I met at a conference dinner a couple of years back). I still follow Meg's photography from time-to-time on Flickr. I try and stay out of the soapbox these days - It is just a giant pissing contest. Very little insiteful debate any more. Karl and Jorgen don't join in so much these days so its pretty much gone to the trolls. I'm still involved in my user groups - They take up most of my free time, since some folk decided that I should be chairman (or maybe it was that I was the only one mad enough to do it). I don't do Toastmasters any more as it was all getting a bit much. I was at the hospital yesterday and today to get a test done (24h heart monitor) so I'll probably find out in a few months what the result is. Last time I had a 24h heart monitor test done it took two years to find out what the result was. So, some food for thought - I'm happy to talk about any of these things. And more.

I hope that comes out okay, Colin. I had one of those done several years ago after an ECG showed some odd wiggles. It turns out I was taking in too much caffeine, which induced 'extra' minibeats in my cardiac rhythm .

Truth is, i'm sure i irritated some of the regulars when i first showed up. And i'm just as certain that some of the people i miss seeing around were already gone or going when you joined up. It's like... the circle of life or something... just a few less baboons threatening to drop lion cubs on your head. Don't look to the past. Don't worry about the present. Look to the future, post about your hopes and dreams, things you hope to do, foods you hope to eat... Consider that today, right now, there are people reading this thread that will be posting crap here tomorrow and brilliant essays a year from now, maybe inspired by your example. It's been a heavy week, micro
Ooooh. Shiny...
