    It may not support that. I know that virtualbox binary version (limited for personal use) does but their open source (use it how you want) does not support USB at all.

    Hmmmm... I seem to recall using the open source version on an Ubuntu host and having USB support. I'll have to re-check when I get home.

                I'm running the VMWare player & have an XP image, however the VM doesn't see my local USB ports. How do I make the VM see my USB ports?

                You might check to see if USB hardware is listed in your VM machine hardware list. I don't know about VM Player, but in VM Server USB support is an option during setup of the VM. It can be added/removed from the hardware list after setup as well.. My personal experience has been that the VM machine picks up the USB hardware fine, but I have also read forum posts saying you had to plug into the USB after the VM machine was started. Perhaps it is hardware dependent.

                        It can be done by adding the line... usb.present="TRUE" to the *.vmx file
