[rant] It snowed last night and then added a few hours of light freezing rain and every thing is covered with 1 inch of ice. I have 20 miles to get to work and would bet anyone that the city of Pittsburgh did not salt even the main roads (let alone side streets) since they have almost no budget and usually leave everyone to fend for themselves.. So I'd expect this trip in to work to be a bit of adventure. And if you do not know Pittsburgh is built on hills and to get anywhere you have to go up and down a few... Well enough delaying its 9:25 here.. [/rant]

Good luck. We only got a glazing of ice in Johnstown, thankfully there wasn't enough freezing rain to cement the sleet and snow layers together.

As I did that on my driveway (even after clearing most of it and a 40lb bag of salt mix). I was actually thinking of that song. Until I had to descend the mountain I live on.. Then I was thinking why did I get myself into this I could have took a sick day. Even at less than 5 MPG it was scary.

Usually depends on the person. But they can check up on the plows and salt trucks and see if the road had been clean at the time. I've had my side street 1ft deep in snow and barely passable, while the main streets are bare.

I made it. It was not as bad as I thought only because the rain had turned from freezing rain to just a normal light rain. This and the traffic had taken care of most of the ice on the main roads although they were still slippery and there were areas of 4 inches of water but I was going slow and letting any one go around me at 65 (in a 40 zone) if they wanted..

I don't even have a cell phone any more. It got damaged in a different type of adventure (bike riding / flat tire 18 miles on a trail from home and then a powerful lightning storm hit in the woods with no clear path to cover...)

Thanks. It was a little scary getting off the mountain but after that it was ok. I definitely driven in worse conditions this winter.

Just save yourself the journey by calling in now to say that you crashed the car on the way in.

Words fade as the meanings change, but somehow, it don't bother me.

If it was not getting warmer I would have not come in. However I made it safely mostly because I drove slow and the freezing rain had finally turned to normal rain with the few degrees warming up..

Speaking of sand.. This weekend I was helping a guy in an E-Cab stuck on ice. He couldn't budge (no positrac). I offered him sandbags from my van (which had no probs on the ice). They were frozen to the carpet, so 1 clocked me in the knee like a curling stone OWW :((

My street tends to be like that. It hasn't happened yet this year but the other 3 winters I've spent in my current apartment snow plows would mock me by doing 3 point turns in the intersection and leaving my road impassible until around 11am. I'm not sure if some of my neighbors complained of if I've just been lucky this year, but both of the storms that dropped a half foot overnight did see at least one plow pass that I'd guess happened around 5amish. The street wasn't anywhere near clean, but was easily passible by cars with normal (eg not jacked up) suspensions.
