VS2008 freezing
-
So, my VS 2008 keeps freezing. It's responsive in the task manager, and I can kill it from there without killing the process, but, clicking on it does nothing, it acts as if it is frozen. Anyone seen this ? And why is it that MS still have no idea how to write multithreaded code, or an IDE that works ?

Complete freezing I haven't had that (yet) but slow working I have. Also for some strange reason the toolbar buttons and menu sometimes stop working, I can type code, can use the shortcuts but when I click a toolbar button nothing happens, even the mouse over effect doesn't work then. So on average I have to restart VS every 2 hours or so.

:~ I only have to restart once or twice a day, and that's usually my fault, e.g. I need to delete a file in use by VS or something like that.

I would really like if somehow we could ban Microsoft from releasing any new functionality or features in VS2010, and just tell them to make the friggin' thing work for once. 2005 was very buggy. 2008 is a little less so, in my experience, but they're both still shamefully slow and unstable. Has anybody here tried to write workflows using the vs2008 WF designer? It's like John McCain playing basketball. Slow, cranky, and at any minute you expect it's gonna keel over and die. Seriously, I would pay full whack for 2010 if it worked like vs2008 was supposed to, with no extra features, no questions asked.

Well if I'm lucky and VS is in a good mode I can go without restarting a whole day but those are very rare days.

Yeah, it's all very odd. You'd think they'd make the core product stable before trying to add to it. I guess 'it works now' isn't much of a sales slogan.

You know, you never really struck me as a really funny person until right now. You're such a card!

This is a well known problem with the Yoda edition of all MS products.

Wish they'd sort explorer out first. Mine's always freezing, usually when attempting to browse network shares.

It's updating it intellistupidity. I see it frequently, most often when editing declarations in an h file. each keystroke there seems likely to set off a search for idiocy which utterly monopolizes the IDE.

It's most likely an issue with the source control plugins, CG. A source control plugin free VS 2008 has never crashed for me. Right now I have 3 installed and it freezes up and crashes at least 3-4 times a day.

Maybe if you weren't thinking about who was making that core product. :)
