Hi Christian, I'm using Cable broadband through Telstra with a 1GB month limit. So far I haven't exceeded it, thought I've come close once. What are you downloading to use some much? Telstra AFAIK, don't have a plan like the one you have described. Who are you with? Cheers The universe is driven by the complex interaction between three ingredients: matter, energy, and enlightened self-interest.

Netspace. Two reasons. 1. Telstra are scum 2. Because they are scum, they are trying to get $300 out of me that I do not owe them and so will not connect me. Oh, 10 gig a month for $100 is another compelling reason. I am downloading a lot of Apple ][, //gs and Amiga software at the moment and old arcade machine ROM's. Generally I use it up with TV episodes, mp3's and movies. I saw the Osbournes about four months before they started showing here. Christian We're just observing the seasonal migration from VB to VC. Who are you with? With Telstra it was 3Gb for me, with nice fat penalties for over use. cheers, Chris Maunder

Netspace. 10 cents a meg when I go over, but the thing that has me upset is they advertise a 10 gig limit and it's not true. It's a 3 and a 7, going over the 7 off peak, it doesn't matter that the 3 gig peak is largely unused. Christian We're just observing the seasonal migration from VB to VC. I have a 10 gig limit on my ADSL account, 3 gig in peak time, 7 outside. Do other people have a similar agreement ? What I mean is, I went to 8 gig in off peak time, and only used 2 in peak time, and I got charged for going over by a gig. Apparently the two limits are independent of one another, whereas I would have expected that the peak time was non-negotiable, and the off peak was whatever was left. Am I wrong ? Do other ISP's do the same ? Christian We're just observing the seasonal migration from VB to VC. Most of these birds will be killed by predators or will die of hunger. Dammit, does no-one outside Australia have to put up with download limits ? That's about $70, for $100 I get a 10 gig limit, and lucky to have it, most ISP's charge that for 3 gig. I've got a traffic limit on my ADSL package of 5 gig. But there is no peak/off peak arrangement. Also the speed is knobbled to 128K both ways. For this, I pay $60 NZD per month. Matt

(not sure how much that is in dollars, probably about $80-90 a month total) About that limit, if I put my mind to it, I could pass that with my 56k and only end up paying about $20-30/m. Until a few weeks ago I had BT Openworld in the UK who have no explicit bandwidth limits for £29.99 per month for 512K/256K ADSL. I've now cancelled that and am moving to A&A who have a Home Lite scheme for about the same price which does have a download limit of 5Mbytes per hour averaged over a month during 9AM-6PM weekdays. Outside of those times there are no specific limits although they do say that you should remember that it is a contended service at 20:1 and if they do have bandwidth problems they will ask people who greatly exceed that to decrease their usage. So why am I moving from an unrestricted service to a restricted one for the same price? Because they appear to be a small company who actually know what they are doing, and also will give me a block of 8 routed IP addresses so I properly run servers and so on using my ADSL line. And have no sillyness like blocked ports, or forcing you to use their servers. When I first had ADSL I downloaded movies and stuff to try it out, but I'm over that now, and find my average usage to be no more than one or two Gbytes per month.

I pay about $40 with no limits. Just as well really, I'd be way over any limits they set, and it'd cost even more than it does (which is overpriced compared to other countries!). What kind of speeds do other people have with limits? I'm only at 512kbps, with the limits do you get greater bandwidth? Or is it just expensive? :) -- Paul "I need the secure packaging of Jockeys. I have a 10 gig limit on my ADSL account, 3 gig in peak time, 7 outside. Do other people have a similar agreement ? What I mean is, I went to 8 gig in off peak time, and only used 2 in peak time, and I got charged for going over by a gig. We have only few months left with flat rate structure in Norway. They're changing it now to a similar system, with the following differences: 1. You have only 1 GB included in price. 2. When you reach 1 GB, instead of charging you for extra bytes, they will drop connection speed from ADSL (about 700 KB) to IDSN quality (64 KB). If you're not happy with it, you can buy extra packages of 5 GB that you use within a year. So they will never charge you extra without you ordering extra package, but the limit (1 GB) is far too low. Well I use the Bleedin' Tossers as well, and I've never seen any download limits on the ADSL. Of course, you poor sods who live in the middle of a farm and can't get more than a poxy dial-up connection need to be limited, so you don't steal bandwidth from those of us with 500K connections! ;P

You're kidding??? BT have a download limit on their ADSL! I have a cable modem through NTL for 20 quid/month and there are no limits at all - I use the 512kb service, although it's actually capped at around 600kb, so 70+KB/s is not unusual. However, you are obliged to take their phone and basic digital TV package as well, for an extra tenner - maybe that's why there are no download limits. Of course, if you are already an NTL subscriber it's not much of an issue. Phil Phil
