But why plasma instead of LCD? Some sensible difference? I see that manufacturers have plasma and LCD with similar prices and resources, so I cannot find visible advantages between one or another...

I chose LCD, but wasn't going for a huge screen, just something sleek. Google lcd vs. plasma. Here's one link: http://www.digitaladvisor.com/guides/lcs-vs-plasma-tv-the-facts_guide.html[^]

It was the only 65 inch screen on offer, so I bought it.

Want burn-in? Get plasma. Seriously. I've yet to see one that doesn't have the tv-guide grid burned in to some degree. Or big rectangles on either side a different shade of dark grey than the middle (from watching lots of standard format video). It's too bad because plasma produces a richer picture than LCD can. That said, the latest LCD's put on a pretty fine show. I'd get one of the new Sharp 65" Limited Edition XS1 LCD's in a second if they didn't run $6500 CAD. Cheers, Drew.

I still have a 36" CRT in my front room, and to be honest I prefer the Pic quality on CRT's than LCD's. I suppose when it dies I will replace, but I shall go for the energy efficiency of the LCD.

Both are inferior motion picture technologies to CRT/projector (except for viewing stills). If you have the room, get a huge secondhand sony trinitron (better picture for < $300). Plasma or LCD should only be considered if you can spend > 5kaud for a small one or >8k for large.

Some comparisons: Plasma is far better in contrast ratio, colour gamaut, latency and size. LCD uses slightly less electricity unless the picture is dark, in which case the plasma uses less electricity. So if you watch a lot of horror films there is a clear winner! I have Panasonic plasma my dad has Sony LCD and the difference is mind blowing in favour of the Panasonic 42pz85b, it also has intelligent frame creation. I understand that the EU are going to slap a huge tax on plasma due to its enviromental cost (recyling etc) plus demand that even stringent precautions are taken on disposal (read even more money)

They're trying to push manufacturers of entertainment equipment to improve the energy efficiency of their devices, so it's across the board: LCD, plasma, PVR, set top boxes.

Don't you have to sit in the next time zone to watch it?

I choose LCD, (42" Samsung if anyone cares). LCD is better for viewing in a dimly lit environment Plasma works best in bright light where LCD is hard to watch. LCD uses less power, the screens are a little tougher. Plasma is brighter and sharper and you can buy larger plasmas than LCD. Unless you're buying cheap, the picture quality is the same, modern LCDs have no problems with latency or response time both are good for HD, SD always depends more on the kit used for upscaling. Plasmas get screen burn - this put me off buying a plasma, so I saved some money and bought LCD. Usually, you see the screen burn where the station logos sit, so it isn't that big a deal until you watch a DVD or play a game. Most manufacturers make both LCD and Plasma, this should tell you there's not that much to choose between them.

I would By a TFT, or even better a Monitor with dvi / tvtunner / hdmi , like my Samsung HD220,or by a bigger with full HD. Cheers
