LCD and not Plasma
-
Regarding my previous post[^], I want thanks for all responses. My wife and I will read all. For now, I did a dynamic reading and I'm inclined to choose LCD. The main factor are the Plasma problems like burn effect, small life span, glass more reflective and the heating. About "small life span" I was checking that LG model[^] has "Life Span (Typical) : 100,000 hr" that "Considering 8 hr/day, the life span will be 33 years". I just need know if LG Plasma TV's will have 33 year warranty. I did too a little of "homework", and I see that here in the Brazilian e-commerce, plasma and LCD are in similar quantities and prices. I don't know the best USA e-commerce, then I got to Wal-Mart and they sell 60 LCD TV's and only 3 plasma TV's![^] It just Wal-Mart or in any market Plasma is decreasing and LCD is increasing?

I have not read the thread yet, but my hubby has done EXTENSIVE research on it. For plasma, he is against them because apparently the bulb goes out every 2-3 years and this is a known defect. He told me this a year ago or so, therefore this might not be true anymore. We have 2 LCD TV's, a 1080i and 1080p (can't remember the sizes but I know the latter is over 40 inches). The bigger one is a Sony and the smaller is a...hell I am not sure, but it's still great. I'm quite happy with LCD's.

Using Wal-Mart as a factor in any kind of choice is mis-guided :)

Modern plasmas are 60,000 hours. Can I say that if you're looking at Walmart then you aren't looking at decent plasmas. I'd reccomend the Panasonic PZ81 series unless you want to go for Pioneer Kuros. It all depends on your budget but for equivalent quality LCDs are cheaper.

Lecky, I'm confused bceause there isn't a bulb in a plasma TV, the display is made from an emitter matrix. There is a CFL backlight in LCD but modern ones are switching to LED backlights. At the place I bought my old plasma a five year new for old warranty was built into the price. Sonys are OK, decent mid range.

Maybe you'd recommend Circuit City as an alternative?

Sit down and watch what you want, preferably in similar lighting to what you have. A workmate just got a plasma and loves it. The parents of a good friend got an LCD and hate it. I bought an LCD Monitor/TV a few months ago and also hated it. My daughter has the last SONY tube HDTV they made. The image is gorgeous.
