Has it possibly occurred to you that it might not be their fault that you can't add? And, evidently don't read all the details (fine print included) when you open the account...

Deja Vu, eh? If you deposited a check, it may have taken several days to clear. Or possibly you agreed to maintain a minimum balance when you opened the account. Call the bank and find out, be polite, explain your situation, and ask them to reverse the penalties. You'll likely be required to deposit an amount sufficient to restore a positive balance, so make sure you have a few bucks on hand for this purpose. I've generally received fairly good service from US Bank over the years, i'd expect they'd be happy to help you out. ...unless this is the same bank you ripped off a while back, in which case they may be somewhat reluctant to deal with you at all...

FWIW, US Bank offers cheap overdraft protection in the form of an automatic line of credit. I made a mistake a while back, overdrew my account by about $600 and didn't notice for a few weeks: that mistake cost me something like $3. Of course, you do need a decent credit record to get this... which you won't get if you ignore a negative balance to gather fees and rant about it here instead of calling your bank.

Wow - you're really living on a shoestring, aren't you ? It's not the banks fault that you can't manage your meagre budget, nor is it their fault that you choose to operate in ignorance of their policies until they affect you personally. It's not even their fault that society has allowed a situation where everyone gets paid electronically, meaning they get their hands on all your money at some point. The depressing thing is, I have good friends in Dayton, I expect to visit there sometime.

If I have a dollar in my account and I spend 50 cents, then the balance should be 50 cents. Its as simple as that. What really bothers me is that I had enough money in there for some tobacco and they stole it!

I always though US Bank was a good bank, until I realized they are just another bank with a different name. Cash is king.

I used to be all electronic with my money. Seeing how banks are and understanding how they work, I choose to keep my money in cash form at all times.

The last time I went into the red by 13 dollars. I had no money to pay it back in time. It was my fault. So I opened a new account at US Bank, kept meticulous detailed organized records of all my financial transactions, contracts, receipts, all that. After all that effort, I still get screwed. Cash or hard currency is the best form of money, and its what I'm using for now on.

They get to loan out my money and collect interest. That checking account I had was free, no min balance, and I received no interest regardless of the balance.

I sent an email with no reply. My phone uses minutes and I would end up wasting more money waiting on hold. I absolutely must have my phone.

Not unless banks change. With all the free money banks are getting from taxpayers, and the ability for banks to loan out 10 times the money they have, I take pride in being a cash only person.

They get to loan out my money and collect interest. That checking account I had was free, no min balance, and I received no interest regardless of the balance.

So, people with jobs, who have money and a capacity to lend money, should be charged fees so that you get services for free ?

No people who borrow money get charged fees and interest.
