How about: 1) write a badass virus. 2) Unleash it to the world. 3) Have your friend rat you out. 4) Take some of your share of the bounty and hire a good lawyer :)

I believe that there is only a payout upon arrest AND conviction.

There are skilled lawyers, and successful lawyers, but there are no good lawyers.

And spend your bounty on what in jail? MS would not offer that much money if they don't feel they have a good chance of conviction

Unless they thought they had no chance of finding the writer of the virus. Then they could get some free viral-stylee advertising.

Zombie masterminds wanted undead or alive[^] I'd like to think that someone who knows the authors, will turn the little pr!@ks over; $250k is a good chunk of change.

Uh. I'm not sure if you had a brainfart or what, but $250K = $250,000, not $250. Not that it's blindingly obvious or anything.

I quoted that directly from the article's content, so perhaps the author had a brainfart (which I dont think), but not me :)

Really? When I visit that link, I see:

Erstwhile college friends of German VXer Sven Jaschan, who was convicted of writing the Sasser worm, picked up a $250,000 payout for their efforts.

Which is odd... unless they made a booboo and corrected it since you viewed it, which is possible :)

What can I say, I'm just a blood-thirsty Celt who is really tired of the Vandals. The Visigoths to for that matter. ;P My hair may look lime-washed, but only a small area of my skin is panted blue :wtf:
