funny, that's right about where i am. i lost 40 lbs. betewwn jan and august of last year, then took some time to relax and see how my habits had changed. after weighing myself in mid november i had only gained back about 1 lb. now, i've got to get back on the ball and get the rest of this flubber off... you can't do it without exercise. anything type you enjoy, but you must exercise. i chose mountain biking and have not only lost the weight, but gained a great new hobby that helps me relax and unwind.

Looking good is nice but I have to tell you... If people knew how much better they would feel... there'd be a massive surge of people trying to lose weight. I used to be in a walking coma, totally tired all the time. My whole body ached. I never felt good at all. I really had a lot of strange health issues. All of them gone after losing the weight. I'm telling you what... obesity makes you feel a lot worse than the flu every single day of your life. :sigh: I am so glad I broke the bonds and got back to my old self. It feels great and I am now setting a good example for my kids. My kids talk about me in two ways: "When you were FatDad did you..." "Now that you are NormalDad you can..." It's awesome. The best feeling in the world.

Pun intended? Actually, I'm feeling good - I'm three pounds away from a stone off since Christmas and I feel great. I'm exercising and dieting and it's been easy so far. The motivation is moving the belt in a notch at a time.

We started a biggest loser contest a few weeks ago for a few people in IT. We now have a hi-tech means of keeping progress via the IT whiteboard: progress report[^] The first to lose 20lbs will be deemed the winner. Making it into a competition resulted in a nice positive effect on the motivation factor. OK back to my regularly scheduled cursing at legacy ASP code.

I love walking and when I was younger and was still living in Alberta, hiking and cruise biking (just riding the bike, cruising) were the thing for me. I used to swim A LOT when I was younger and I used to play hockey (us Canadians, need I say more? :) ) But here in Amman, there's not much to do and I have to bust my chops to make what I consider a living. This summer things will certainly change, the day I move out of Jordan.

Oh I swear on all things I hold dear. I felt awful every day. I could drink 3 shots of espresso and immediately be exhausted. I couldn't even run 30 feet or jog 100 feet. I never wanted to do anything. Go for a walk? NO! Never! I never wanted to do anything and I was grumpier than all get-out. Fat people are generally miserable angry souls (at least I was). I hated being fat. I hated how I looked. I just hated every moment of my life. I was FAT and miserable. I hope and pray to God I never go back. I've never felt better in my entire life.

I can only imagine. Can't relate to that at all. My system goes the other way. Have a body fat measurement of 6.5%. At 22 I went on a 12000 calorie per day (had to eat like 6 meals, most with seconds and thirds) diet for 6 months to gain 7 pounds. Doesn't sound like much but there was a small size increase.

Because it's the easy option. It's so easy to slip into being overweight. You start off as just slipping over by a couple of pounds, and the next thing you know you're way overweight. I know wherefore I speak - I used to be really fit, I was heavily into martial arts and then I started to work away from home (lot's of nights alone in a hotel bar) - it's so easy to let the good habits slide because you fool yourself that you can get back into shape quickly. This doesn't happen - and then it's 20 years down the line. For me, losing weight has been fairly easy so far. I have the support of my wife and the kids, and I'm motivated by seeing my weight go down when I step on the scales. Added to that, I play squash a couple of times a week and I'm trying to get to the gym every other day and I now feel great. Getting into that mindset isn't easy for most, but when it works, it really works.

Um... I pretty much hate you now. People like you make me ill. Although I have to admit it's much easier for me to add strength and power and such so there are certainly trade offs. Now that I'm older I'd way rather be in your shoes. When I was 18 and had BUDS on my mind I loved being the machine I was. If I wanted bulk and strength I could look at a hex-weight and add strength. Now that part of my life is dead I'd way rather have your issues. ;P

maybe it's different for girls as they say ... always aware of how one looks growing up it becomes ingrained to be self-conscious almost ... so now i have always run and kept fit and kept up martial arts work-outs and eaten very healthy food so i can't imagine being 100lbs over-weight ... i don't think i weigh much more than 140 - 150lbs i think it's totally fantastic to see people getting back to caring about themselves ... it's easy to almost forget our physical actuality being so digital all day long :)

Isn't that a little quick? Are you doing this under medical supervision? Do be careful.

They did that at a previous job. Each participant had to put in $100. They had to reach their target weight or forfeit their $100. Those that met target got their $100 back plus losers money distributed amongst winners. You were allowed to take as much clothes off to meet weight. Yes it was disgusting, but oh so funny at weigh time. If you don’t mind me asking Did your skin un-stretch after losing the weight?

I did it before the biggest loser was on (I think) or at least before it was popular and mainstream. http://www.code-frog.com/milestone.htm[^] I'll never ever regret the hard work and discipline it took. I am quite positive I saved my own life and I know I have motivated about a dozen other people to follow in my footsteps and drop extra weight. The first 30 days are the hardest after that you become a "man on a mission" and you won't be stopped. It's challenging and rewarding. You won't regret this at all. A huge GOOD FOR YOU!!!:rose::cool::rose::cool::rose::cool:

Mine was related to a massive injury to my back. It took me about 5 years to recover. Just in time to watch one of my children be born with a massive injury to her small bowel. Took her about 4 years to recover. Once all that was stable I looked in the mirror and thought, "Dude you are fat." so I started from there. It's been a long fun road. Not at all disappointing. Yeah people really need to realize that they shouldn't eat what they cannot grow or kill. The latter sounds morbid but what I mean is if it takes a factory and a chemist to make it... do you really want to eat it? That's where I am at now. Whole grains, veggies, organic everything. It's not a bad life at all. In fact I feel great. :-D

We started one this week with our linemen; we're a bit worried about their health, as diabetes is rampant among the Indian population. One of them weighed in Wednesday at 399.9 lbs! The deal is, a half hour off early if you spend an hour at the gym that evening. It's open to anyone in the comapany, except me*, and no one has told me yet what the prize will be. *I already lost 32 lbs this past year, and started out so thin that when I stood sideways and stuck out my tongue I was frequently mistaken for a zipper. I do go to the gym, but my goal is to gain some weight back, not lose more. Although I've gained back 24 lbs so far, I've discovered that abdominal surgery is a great way to develop belly fat... I never had any before. :sigh:

I dunno... I've pushed a pencil for so long I've come to resemble one. :-D I have to admit, tho, last time I saw you the positive effects of your fitness program were quite apparent. ;)
