A colour laser printer for £79*? [modified]

I thought it was worth a punt, so I bought one[^]. Arrived today, up and running in less than 10 minutes and the print quality is far better than I imagined possible at the price. It's also reasonably quiet, reasonably quick, reasonably compact and (apparently) reasonably cheap to run - time will tell. Initial impressions are extremely favourable. [EDIT] Apparently the supplied toner cartridges are at 100%, so good for 1000 pages each. [/EDIT] *Ex. VAT and delivery

Ah yes, but its the old razor-and-blades model. ie. It'll have naff all toner in it so it won't be long at all before you need to replace all four of the toners. That's when they make their money....

According to the specs, the cartridges it ships with are good for 1000 pages each - half of the normal 'high capacity' ones which isn't too bad.

Nice find assuming the toner lasts for something vaguely approximating the universally optimistic claims. At that price I can only assume it's an inventory purge of an old model. :cool:

they do run for more then 10 pages. I just hope he bought the "network adaptor". It's the peice that fits into the back to allow the printer to be networked. Yes it does have a network port, but it needs this "adaptor" to be functional. Other wise a decent printer. there is a belt inside the printer that he'll have to be careful with. Other downside to this printer is you NEED the software that comes with it. (Yeah I have some experience with printing Toasters...er laser printers...) thank god it's the weekend, the typo monster is attacking..

Then the toner cartridges do finally go they are going to cost you double what you paid for the printer to begin with!:confused:
Black cartridge is always first to go. next comes Cyan/ Magenta. if he's doing mostly text files with the odd image that printer will last a good while. that model printer is not exactly a "photoshop" 24/7 color printer. no printer that small should be. for home and small business is a decent printer. I agree with others, the toner will be the cost of any laser printer. Any printer on the market is like that.

Well, as everyone's alrady noted about the accessories, I say run it until it dies, and hopefully that'll be around 1000 pages, then just trash it (or E-Bay it) and buy a whole new one, cheaper that way.
Since it's coming with halfsize toner carts replacing them would be marginally cheaper than buying a new one (assuming you can find a cheap color laser again when you run out) even assuming you have a completely symmetric load on all 4 carts and don't run out of one while the others have lots of capacity left.
