Weven Compatibility

I read somewhere on the net yesterday that it's been discovered that Weven will experience the same driver and application compatibility issues that pretty much killed Vista acceptance, as well as increased hardware requirements. All of these things, despite being a "warmed-over Vista". I don't remember where I read it...

Only issue I've come accross is OutOfMemory messages when my son uses the new Paint - but that's probably just a beta thing. Doesn't happen in any other application.

I have 2 backup plans in case that happens: 1. Linux 2. Convert to Mac and become a Mac coder.

I'm running it on 5 year old hardware with no problems at all - Vista lasted a day on that machine before I had to kill it. Only issue I've come accross is OutOfMemory messages when my son uses the new Paint - but that's probably just a beta thing. Doesn't happen in any other application.

The only issue I've had is that the gma950 is just barely able to run areo at full load and dissipating that much heat forces the fan into loud mode; with win classic it's not any worse than under XP. Even there I've got minor problems related to internal heat sinks apparently being clogged. I'm waiting for confirmation from MSI that I can break the warranty sticker to blow it out without voiding anything.

I agree with Linux as I enjoy using Ubuntu. But Mac... too snobbish & overpriced.

How will that happen? As long as many people are using it, new drivers etc will be released for it (to have more potential customers).. Unless Microsoft pays them not to.
I don't know the percentage in the market, but a lot of notebooks these days only have drivers for Vista. Acer and Fujitsu-Siemens do this ever since Vista was launched. And not only drivers... how about developer tools? I wouldn't bet against MS requiring Vista or 7 to run VS2010... :~

They can do that because they come with Vista installed. But nVidia for example would lose, say, 20% of its customers (gamers and other vista dislikers) if it'd drop the XP drivers (some will move to Vista, shame on them). Because there is an alternative (ATI) although not for long anymore (dropping the high end models..) That would be very much like MS :| However, no matter how good VS2010 will be, if it requires Vista or W7 I will not use it. VS2008 isn't that bad..
