Anyone looking forward to seeing the movie version of this? I got the actual graphic novel a few days ago and finished it last night. Quite interesting, I've never read a graphic novel before (and I don't think I will again) but I've been curious about the movie. Personally I'm hoping it's a lot better than Snyder's last film "300", which I thought was pretty lame.

Yep - I'm a big fan of Alan Moore's work and Watchmen is arguably his best. If they manage to pull a Sin City book to film conversion (which I thought was excellent) the Watchmen film should be great. However, if they manage to give it The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen treatment, there'll be riots in the streets. From the trailers I've seen, it looks promising.

We started to watch Sin City but the wife didn't like it after 5 minutes or so, and it got pitched. Since then I've never gotten around to renting it again, though the imagery of a slutty looking Jessica Alba in leather chaps is pretty alluring...

The only problem here is that it is in danger of becoming over-hyped. Ads on TV several times every night. Tends to put me off. It has already done so for Slum Dog Millionaire.

It's the first movie i've actually wanted to see in a theater since... LotR. Yeah, it'll probably suck. But, whatcha gonna do. I really did enjoy the book. Of course, the eventual extended-edition DVD will be a better value, so...
That's as good an excuse as any for me to see it in the theatre. I have no real interest in it, but I don't have home theatre, and I haven't been to a cinema for about two years - since The Departed!

It's a graphic novel adoption. But the costumes themselves look a little bit weared in reality. Most of the characters of the movie look kinna ugly and irritating[specially the yellow dressed woman :)] rather than funny. But I think the film will manage around 250M$ or so and if not then it will be a huge BOW ;P

Why not? There are some that are based on real events that are very thought provoking. You should try reading Maus or Persepolis.
I prefer reading a book - it's more engaging, to me at least, and I like visualizing the ideas in authors text. Graphic novels seem to take that away.

Actually it's not really a problem with the artwork, I just enjoy visualizing stuff myself. Having the artwork there tends to distract me from that. Plus there's back story filling that can be much better with text that I miss, assuming of course the author is bright enough to actually write those parts. Also some of the artwork is a tad overdone in some of the comics/graphic novels. For example, Witchblade is a cool idea. But while I like the idea of heroine who beats up bad guys dressed in a skin tight red mini dress, 4 inch heels, and porn star size D boobs popping out all over the place, it's a little embarrassing reading something like that on the subway. But again that's just my opinion, I just like good old fashioned text :)

I am definitely looking forward to it, but I'm terrified. Moore said although the screenplay is as close as a movie could come to his original work (though he never intended it for film), he wouldn't go see it [^]. I was also disappointed after I saw 300, but it really got me thinking. Did I really expect a full-bodied drama after seeing the trailer? Or did I want to see the big, blue screen battle? (thinly guised in re-imagined, movie history format)

It's absolutely not wifey material. As in "if your wife likes it, you should be killed for claiming such a woman for your own" no wife material. But apart from Jessica Alba, it definitely has artistic value: it's a bold, creative way to put a comic on the silver screen. It's one of the few mainstream movies that dare to try new visuals, visuals viewers aren't used to - trying to figure out if this works, like Bunuel's razor. And not just try, it bets everything on it. Bravo! Oh yeah, and the chicks.
