That was funny.

I wonder if this is true. I mean do they have higher than 30 MBit FIOS? [EDIT]Hmm, only 16MBit available in my area.[/EDIT]

Yes, they are rolling out a 50mb/sec service, requires a DOCSIS 3.0 modem, and I believe it's around $150/mo. News Story about their 50mb/s rollout plan[^] Their 'normal', everyday service gets between 8-12mb/sec.

The interesting bit about the ad is that there's absolutely no mention of the speeds :-) Just saying "fast" or "fastest" or "fastest fast (sic)" is all nice, but it'd be nice if they mentioned some actual mbps numbers.

No, but Gandhi definitely has the most commonly mis-spelt name among well known people in history :-)

My latest book : C++/CLI in Action / Amazon.com linkmaybe, OTOH outside of india; I suspect almost everyone who knows of Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar misspells his name.

My latest book : C++/CLI in Action / Amazon.com linkIf you follow the link below the advertisement and enter in your address they will tell you the speeds available to you. Mine was 16MBit and I am pretty sure 30MBit FIOS is in my neighborhood so not the fastest where I live..

Well a lot of Indians would mis-spell that too I'd think. Sadly for me, a lot of Indians mis-spell my name as "Nishanth" :-( Luckily no westerner has done that to me yet.

Thanks - seems they don't have the info yet. I entered a temporary mailinator address but did not receive anything yet. I am already on Comcast and I think I get 8 Mbps (or perhaps only 6 Mbps).

My latest book : C++/CLI in Action / Amazon.com linkYou know you're in a room full of nerds, when you post a thread with a humorous video about High-Speed internet using a Rabbit-Panther-Jet-Enabled-Hairless-thingie being driven by an overly-caffeinated-jet-pilot-with-a-led-foot and everyone's discussing what their actual download speeds are ... I feel like I've just told a joke to Mr. Spock, and he's standing there, staring at me, eyebrow raised, saying "It's not logical Douglas, they didn't mention actual speeds.". ;p

Now I did think the video was funny, quite funny at that.. However my involvement in the discussion about speeds is because I do not believe a darn word that they say. There is no other company that I have business with that I trust less. And most of this is distrust is generated by the constant barrage of false adverts / borderline lies that I see every single day as a customer. Eventually, when I call them to disconnect my service this will be one of the reasons I mention. The other will be the rate hikes and service changes (moving popular channels to different packages forcing upgrades).
