It looks like Business Methods Patents[^] are on their way out. Thank Goodness. Little was more insane than patenting a common idea or task.

In the immortal words of Napoleon Dynamite - "Yessss....". The patent system is out of control, imho. Or maybe it's the legal system. Probably both. Case in point from the CP newsletter. http://www.betanews.com/article/print/Microsoft-sues-TomTom-over-Linux-kernel/1235671600[^] Stooopid.

Skilled and knowledgeable patent officers would help even more. Too many tech patents being reviewed by a 10 year old with Google search.

        cheers, Paul M. Watson.

The title of your post brought back memories as we always sang 'Ding dong, the witch is dead, the wich is dead' when our French teacher entered the room (at high school). She could laugh with it, which made it even more funny :-D . the good ol' days.

She was laughing because you sang it when she entered.

Nice read considering I've just started an IP Law course.

Not just business method patents, it appears that many software patents are also now vulnerable. According to our patent lawyer, most software patents will not survive a challenge in court. Of course, that won't stop the lawyers from trying (and billing.)

I certainly hope so. Considering that a host of software patents were vague things like "Method to respond to a button click on a web site." I am sure there instances where novel systems have been developed but I would also bet that they are far and few in between.
