May be I should have explained better. I have VS2005 Professional edition. The Expression edition is only for VC# & VC++. We need not even count the latter. You asked for VC6.0 & VS2005 right? There's no problem at all. What exactly do they say? I'm not sure if there are any exceptions.

lol :) No. I have vc6.0 , VC2005, VC2008 express edition all living in harmony. I even had VS2003 previously in the list. The admins are just lazy. Kick them.

Yep that's true. I've been working on plain vanilla C++ & STL. And 2005 was all perfect to work with. Now I'm tired of keeping WCP,WPF,Sliverlight & all as buzzwords. So came out of the rock and installed 2008 express editions with 3.5 framework. But didn't try anything with that yet.

Your admins are talking rubbish - I've had professional editions of VC6, VS2003, VS2005 and VS2008 on the same machine with no issues whatsoever.

I've installed Visual Studion 6.0, Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition, Visual Studio 2008 Professional edition in my PC. All these living together without making any problems. What your administrators mentioned seems the new Deployment model of. Visual C++ 2005 (2008 as well) supports a new deployment model for Windows client applications based on the idea of isolated applications and side-by-side assemblies. just for information, this does not exist. you can find either VS.NET (which is VS 2003) or VS2005 (MS removed the ".NET" in later editions because it was confusing people too much about "can I code native code with VS.NET ?")... anyway, for your question, like other people replied to you, there's absolutely no problem in installing several versions of Visual Studio in the same machine. So I'm curious about why your admin says so... any experiments ?
