Video compression [modified]

Hi, I need to send some movies to my friend in another city... I need a video compressor so that i can compress the movies without data loss and send it on a CD. Please tell me what to use for this? Thanks

First, if you are talking about DVDs they are already compressed. Second you would need a further compression of approximately 10 times, this will lower quality.

You're out of luck. You could try to zip it but that shouldn't get you more than a few percentages gain. If you're just looking for 'very low data loss' you could try x264 But couldn't you just send them over the internet? Set up a temporary FTP server? you wouldn't need to compress anything and you don't lose a CD.
