Noise cancelling headphones...

I've got to do a lot of regular flying for my new job, and want to buy a pair of noise cancelling headphones so that I don't deafen myself whilst listening to music. I was thinking about the Sennheiser PXC 300[^] as they’re not too expensive nor bulky. Anyone used them, or got any other suggestions? Cheers all…

I've not used their NC phones, but I have two pairs of regular sennheiser headphones. While they're not going to fool anyone into thinking they're listening to a stereo system with a sub they sound much better than the $10 boxmart specials they replaced with.

yes, I use those exact headphones. They're brilliant - amazing sound quality, lightweight, better than Bose 'phones imo. Good thing about the sennheisers is they don't cup the whole ear - so if you wear glasses then this makes them far more comfortable than (say) Bose headphones that can press the glasses arms against the side of your head. They have a separate battery-back (2x AAA) that joins to the cable. I don't find that an issue as you can clip it onto your clothing / keep it close by. The headphones also fold up really neatly and everything fits into a neat little pouch that is really easy to stash away when you're travelling. Get the senniheisers, you won't regret it.

Thanks mate. Also the point about the glasses is helpful! Cheers

The little plug in ones that came with my Omnia are awesome. Cant hear it when you take it off, and when its on, awesome sound, and no outside sounds.

Having just had to replace my earphones (had a little accident with the old pair) while on the way to Heathrow (on the way to Boston), I can thoroughly recommend the Shure SE310s[^]. By extension this includes the cheaper SE110 and SE210 models, for their sound isolation qualities, even if their audio quality isn't going to be as good as the SE310s. They worked very well both to and from Boston (although the Trent 800s on the 777 I flew on weren't too noisy anyway).

For $300 I hope they include a day or two with a cute model to demo them for me.

I love my Sony MDR-NC22. They're great for travelling.

no probs, glad to be of help. The glasses/comfort thing is a big deal for me and for that reason the senn'ies come out on top.
