Networking Question Help Needed

Hey Friends I have a Desktop with 2 Network Cards I have a Laptop with 1 Network Card I have a internet connection, which has a LAN Cable, so if i connect that LAN Cable to any PC, it provides internet connection (It requires Obtain and IP Address Automatically) Now is it possible to connect Internet Connection Cable to 1 Network Card on Desktop and Other Network Card Cable to Laptop and get internet connection on Laptop? Both above Computers are running Vista. Regards

Yes, you'll need a crossover cable to connect them and set up internet connection sharing on the desktop.

BTW, in software, hope and pray is not a viable strategy. (Luc Pattyn)
Visual Basic is not used by normal people so we're not covering it here. (Uncyclopedia)If both ports are gigabit no crossover is needed.

yeah, sounds switch or router (i do not know either of them), but are they like Power Extension Cord Is it something like Connect Modem Cable Connection to Switch or Router then connect n number of Computers to that Switch / Router and we can switch on / off any computer independently and internet connection will work? Yes. You can just use a switch IF your ISP allows you to consume multiple dynamic IP addresses form them, otherwise you should be using a router that has DHCP capabilities. I always recommend using router just because it provides a bit more isolation from the public network (via NAT) and that helps with security because none of your computers are directly on the public network.

In Pittsburgh,PA drinks are on average about $4 to $6 US and a cheap 100Mbit switch can be had for $10US (minus shipping).
