AP: Pope tells Muslims that religion rejects violence[^]

YAOUNDE, Cameroon (AP) — Pope Benedict XVI told Muslim leaders on Thursday that true religion rejects violence, and he held up peaceful coexistence between Christianity and Islam in Cameroon as "a beacon to other African nations." ... "Genuine religion ... stands at the base of any authentically human culture," he said. "It rejects all forms of violence and totalitarianism: not only on principles of faith but also of right reason." ...

Assuming he was correctly quoted, is the man stupid? It is *not* true that "Genuine religion ... rejects all forms of violence ..." Genuine religion rejects and battles injustice. Genuine religion rejects ... and battles ... unjust violence. ps: Get ready for the Religionists of Pieces to react to the Pope's implicit condemnation of the "Religion of Peace."

I know that a lot of people (including myself) didn't think that he knew what he was talking about when earlier this week he said "the distribution of condoms won't "resolve" the AIDS problem but will actually make it worse.". Scott

First off, those African AIDS "statistics" are even more bogus than those for the US. Secondly -- Catholic News Agency: What the Pope really said about AIDS and condoms[^] That CNA link isn't working, suddenly. Here's Kathryn Jean Lopez on NRO with an extract[^]

Looking at history one quickly comes to the conclusion that genuine religion kills over the most minor points of theology, and/or who gets to count the cash after the collection.

But you're a liar and no one in his right mind would even imagine taking your "looking at history" as anything other than just more of your lying.

As usual you have shown the extent of your wit and intelligence in defense of the unknowable, the unbelievable, and the irrelevant. I always appreciate your answers, and enjoy your brilliant repartee!

                the truth comes out!

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.

Please let me know which is the 'genuine religion', so that I may ascertain the veracity of this statement.

If you were willing to think for a moment or two, you'd understand that it's true. But you're not, so you won't -- you're not interested in "any citations to back up both of those claims" and we both know this.

If you were willing to think for a moment or two, you'd understand that it's true. But you're not, so you won't -- you're not interested in "any citations to back up both of those claims" and we both know this.

Had you used the word 'inaccurate', rather than the more emotive 'bogus', a moment or two's thought about the difficulty of collecting, verifying, and collating figures in third world countries, contrasted with the same task in the USA, would probably led us to agree with you. But 'bogus' implies deliberate falsification, and a claim like that has to be substantiated.

I have no idea what that statement means in the current context. You have made a claim that the AIDS statistics in Africa and the USA are 'bogus'. You are asked to provide evidence, and you merely resort to insult. That is intellectual dishonesty.
