Where to go for a family holiday?
-
We want to go on holidays later this year for about 10 days to a really nice family friendly resort with our one year old. 4.5 or 5 starts on a beach with a pool or two and a baby sitting service. I dont want to do anything at all, no snorkeling, no diving, no para gliding, no bush walks just read a book or three, drink a bit, eat well and sleep and we're happy to pay a premium for good service, a baby sitting service we feel comfortable with and more than anything peace and quiet. Current options are that I can think of are: Fiji Hawaii New Caledonia Maldives Cook Islands Tahiti Vanuatu Hamilton Island

We spent a month in the US and it was awesome. But, with a one year old, perhaps not so much. I'd ditch Hawaii, unless you really want to spend a lot. Vanuatu is plain nasty until you get out of Port Vila ( the capital ). Nadi is a lot nicer, and Fiji has other urban centres that are OK. I would assume tho that if you want what you're describing, your best bet is the island that's closest, they'll all have resorts that offer that.

Here http://www.thepearlsouthpacific.com/[^] I stayed there last year by myself for six days. Great bars, good views, awesome staff. The restaurant and bistro were both superb (met the Fijian Treasurer at the bar one afternoon).
I don't speak Idiot - please talk slowly and clearly I don't know what all the fuss is about with America getting it's first black president. Zimbabwe's had one for years and he's sh*t. - Percy Drake , Shrewsbury Driven to the arms of Heineken by the wife

I read this fantastic article about Lord Howe Island. From what I recollect, it seems to be perfect for you. Also, as you're Aussie, you don't need a visa to visit there.
Cheers, Vıkram.

A few years ago we went to the Maldives. Sounds exactly what you are looking for. Lots of peace and quiet, little to do except eat, drink, sunbath and swim. A lot of the atolls now have babysitting services. Most islands are on reefs so for the first 100 meters or so the water is shallow and warm. The locals are very friendly, relaxed ad lid back. Food was excellent, very good choice. The beaches are white sands and clean. Just have to remember they are small islands. We had one cloudy day which meant no hot water as the hot water was generated from solar panels. We plan to go back next year with our 2 year old son.
